ISL 2024-25: Updated Points Table, most goals, and most assists after match 28, East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan
The Mariners ran out derby winners while the Islanders picked up their first win of the season.
The first game of Saturday’s Indian Super League (ISL) doubleheader saw Mumbai City FC clinch their first win of the season and sideline FC Goa away from home. Nikolaos Karelis scored the opening goal and put the Islanders ahead in the game before Yoëll van Nieff doubled the lead. Armando Sadiku did pull off a goal, but couldn’t save FC Goa from facing a defeat.
In the second game, Mohun Bagan Super Giant secured the bragging rights by defeating East Bengal in the high-profile Kolkata Derby. Jamie Maclaren scored his first derby goal for the Mariners and put his side ahead before Dimitri Petratos scored the second goal from the spot and put the game to bed. With this defeat, East Bengal have now lost five games on the trot.
A brief look at the points table
Bengaluru FC continue to lead the ISL table with thirteen points in five games. Mohun Bagan have jumped up to the second spot following their win in the derby. Jamshedpur FC are back in the third spot while Punjab FC are ranked fourth. Chennaiyin FC continue to sit at the fifth spot with seven points in hand.
Kerala Blasters are now ranked sixth while Mumbai City FC have come up to the seventh position after winning their first game of the season. The eighth position is held by the Kerala Blasters followed by NorthEast United at the ninth spot. Odisha FC continue to be placed ninth. Mohammedan SC are now ranked tenth. Hyderabad FC are still ranked eleventh. East Bengal’s winless run continues and they find themselves at the bottom of the table.
