Tekcham Abhishek Singh has become an irreplaceable cog at Punjab FC.
Now and then we get a young footballer who just seems to fit into a struggling team and instantly improve it. One such player is Tekcham Abhishek Singh who has become a regular starter and an important asset for Indian Super League club Punjab FC.
Primarily a right back, Abhishek has started all six ISL games for the Shers this season. While the 19-year-old is yet to score a goal or provide an assist, he is showing great potential and is getting a lot of trust from the Punjab FC manager Panagiotis Dilmperis.
Career
Tekcham Abhishek Singh started his career in the Minerva Punjab youth academy and represented the reserve side of the club in the 2019-20 season. The right-back then moved to Punjab FC before the 2021-22 season and has since been with the club.
With the Shers, Abhishek first played for the reserve team before being promoted to the main squad. The youngster was part of the Punjab FC side that won the 2022-23 I-League title and was promoted to the Indian Super League.
In the ISL, Abhishek was introduced into the side when Punjab were struggling for form. His arrival helped the Shers get some stability as they finished eighth in the ISL 2023-24 campaign, missing out on the playoffs.
The youngster has continued his sublime form in the 2024-25 ISL season and has now become the starting right back at the club. Owing to his prowess, Abhishek has also had the chance to play for India at the youth level.
The Punjab FC player represented the Indian U16 team in two international friendlies. He also played for the Indian U20 side in the 2023 AFC U20 Asian Cup qualification.

Playing Style
Tekcham Abhishek Singh is versatile in terms of where he can play on the pitch. Currently, the 19-year-old plays as the right back for his club. However, the Punjab FC player can also play as a left-back or as a right-winger.
The defender is quite pacy and is impressive in making recoveries and interceptions for his club. While Abhishek doesn’t focus much on giving crosses, he does have the knack of dribbling past the opponents to add numbers when his side is on the attack.
In the 2023-24 ISL season, the youngster had an impressive ratio of 81% tackles won. Since Abhishek isn’t the most impressive of players in terms of physique, he concentrates more on his technical play and stitching passes with his teammates.
Future Potential
Abhishek Singh is certainly building a good profile for himself. With more maturity and experience, the Punjab FC player is bound to become even better in the coming months.
One goal in the youngster’s mind will surely be to represent his country at the highest level. There are quite a few quality right-back options in Indian football at the moment.
Nikhil Poojary, Rahul Bheke, Asish Rai, and Valpuia are a few names that have represented the Indian football team in recent games. Hence to secure a place in the Indian national football team Tekcham Abhishek Singh still has some work to do.
In terms of silverware too, the 19-year-old is yet to win domestic trophies like the ISL Cup and Shield, the Durand Cup, and the Super Cup. With a bright future ahead of him, Abhishek will surely be a player to watch in the coming years.
