Ninthoi Meetei scored two goals for Chennaiyin FC in the recently concluded ISL season.

Punjab FC are set to make a significant addition to their squad with the signing of Ninthoinganba Meetei, the 22-year-old winger from Manipur who played for Chennaiyin FC in the recently concluded Indian Super League (ISL) season. The Shers will acquire the services on the winger on a free transfer, Khel Now can confirm.

Ninthoi, as he is popularly known, made 19 appearances for the Marina Machans in the recently concluded ISL season, contributing two goals and an assist. While these statistics may not seem extraordinary, they do not capture the full impact of his performances on the pitch.

Ninthoi’s pace and dribbling skills were instrumental in stretching opposition defenses, a tactic cleverly deployed by Chennaiyin FC’s head coach, Owen Coyle, particularly in counter-attacking scenarios.

A source close to the development of this deal informed Khel Now, “Punjab FC were looking to sign a winger, and Ninthoi’s profile was appreciated by the management. His eye-catching performances in the ISL made the club keen to bring him into the squad.”

For Punjab FC, who finished eighth in their debut ISL campaign, just three points shy of a playoff spot, the focus in this transfer window has been on addressing gaps and adding depth to their squad. The Shers, as they are known, have already made some strategic acquisitions.

They secured Princeton Rebello from Odisha FC on a two-year deal and brought in goalkeeper Muheet Khan from Real Kashmir and Vinit Rai from Mumbai City FC, whose move was exclusively reported earlier by Khel Now. Moreover, Ravi Kumar the current Indian Goalkeeper has also extended his contract with the club.

Ninthoi Meetei’s signing is expected to complement these additions, offering Punjab FC an additional edge in attack. His ability to exploit spaces and deliver quick transitions could prove crucial as the team aim to improve on to their standings in the upcoming season.
