The Shers got the better of Chennaiyin FC in a five-goal thriller

Panagiotis Dilmperis’s Punjab FC registered their fourth win of the 2024-24 ISL season, as the Shers came back from a goal down at half time, to secure a commanding 3-2 victory at home, and put themselves third on the table, with a game in hand.

The fixture was quite a tight contest. Punjab created several chances in the first half but missed the final flare inside the box. However, Luka Majcen came to their rescue, scoring an amazing brace inside the opening three minutes of the second half to put Punjab in the lead.

The Slovenian, who was out of action for more than a month due to an injury, returned in the best possible manner and proved his worth in the team.

Head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis heaped high praises for the striker and commended his dedication and hard work.

Panagiotis Dilmperis on Luka Majcen

“Luka Majcen is a big value player, in the locker room as well as the pitch, and it’s a great start after what he passed through, he deserves this. It was a huge surgery, he did a great job, he was struggling, but he didn’t miss any muscle and weight, and he was working every day,” said Panagiotis Dilmperis.

Mrzjlak’s injury

Panagiotis Dilmperis also commented about his midfield maestro Fillip Mrzjlak, who was subbed off in the 60th minute of the game due to an apparent injury.

Talking about his situation, Panagiotis Dilmperis stated, “Fillip Mrzjlak felt something, the doctors and medical staff are evaluating the situation, and we will see.”

The seriousness of his injury will be known only once the medical tests take place, and given the current form the Croatian is in, the Shers would be hoping that no serious damage has been caused.

With four wins in five games, and their star player coming back in action, the tides are pretty much in favor of Punjab FC at the moment, and head coach Panagiotis Dilmperis will be hoping that his team continues playing in this manner, and navigate the season in the best possible manner whilst aiming for the top spot in the table.
