The midfielder has signed a two-year contract with the Kolkata giants that will keep him at the club until the end of the 2025-26 season. Saul Crespo is the second overseas retention for the Red and Golds after the club extended the contract of Hijazi Maher a few weeks back.
Saul Crespo’s time at East Bengal
Saul Crespo made a move to the City of Joy in the summer of last season on a free transfer following an exceptional debut campaign in India with Odisha FC. The 27-year-old was an instant hit at East Bengal as he hit the ground running for his new club.
He played an influential role for the Carles Cuadrat-led side both on and off the field. Saul Crespo played 25 games across all competitions for the torch bearers scored seven goals and also provided an assist. He also missed a few games due to an injury and his absence hurt East Bengal big time which speaks volumes about his role in the team.
East Bengal’s preparations for the upcoming season
East Bengal have begun their preparations for the 2024-25 Indian football season in full swing. They have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer market and have closed a couple of big deals to strengthen their squad in every possible way.
The Red and Gold brigade have secured the signature of French midfielder Madih Talal who was one of the hottest properties in Indian Football last season. And to add more firepower to their attack, they have included Greek forward and the defending Golden Boot winner Dimitrios Diamantakos.
Both Madih Talal and Diamantakos wrapped up their season with 16 goal contributions each. Imagine the outcome when they come together in the colors of East Bengal next season.
Alongside these two star signings, East Bengal have also added David Lalhlansanga, Mark Zothanpuia, Provat Lakra, Alex Saji and Debjit Majumder ahead of the upcoming season.
