Odisha FC who had their best run in the Indian Super League(ISL) in the last season as they entered the semi-final round are now gearing up to face Chennaiyin FC in their inaugural match of the ISL 2024-25 at the Kalinga Stadium on Saturday.

With the home advantage under their kit, Sergio Lobera’s men will definitely look to start with a commanding performance against the touring side against whom they lost one and won one match in the last season of ISL.

In the pre-match press conference on Friday, the Juggernauts’ head coach Sergio Lobera highlighted Hugo Boumous who has been signed as a midfielder by the club for the new season. When a question was raised regarding the signing of Hugo Boumous in the team, the coach replied, “Boumous is an amazing player. With all respect to the opponents’ teams and their squad, for me, Boumous is the best-attacking midfielder in the league.”

Undoubtedly, Boumous is a major addition to the squad. His presence can strengthen the midfield game of Odisha FC, which looked quite strong in the last season. Meanwhile, Sergio Lobera also mentioned providing chances to the young and talented individuals in the squad.

He stated, “There are 722 players in the squad. I don’t know whether there are other teams with this number of young players. But it’s very important to take care of them. We need to provide them with opportunities when they are completely ready. We can’t put them under pressure from the very beginning.”

Hugo Boumous’s first stint on Indian soil started with FC Goa when he was signed by the club in February 2018. After representing the club in 47 matches, scoring 20 goals and registering 17 assists, he moved to Mumbai City FC in October 2020.

For Mumbai, he scored 3 goals and provided 9 assists while representing the club in 16 games, before moving to Mohun Bagan Super Giant in July 2021. He remained an integral part of the team from Kolkata and represented the historic club in 70 matches, contributing 14 goals and 19 assists.

In the Indian Super League, Boumous has played 89 games and has scored 28 goals with 35 assists to date. With a new challenge to his name, Boumous will definitely look to create a challenging impact on the club’s further success in the coming years.
