Sergio Lobera emphasizes on these two traits ahead of crucial match against Punjab FC

Sergio Lobera’s Odisha FC will be keen to get back to winning ways against the Shers.
Indian Super League (ISL) club Odisha FC head coach Sergio Lobera was introspective when he addressed the media ahead of his team’s crucial matchweek 21 clash against Punjab FC. Following a narrow defeat to FC Goa in the last game, Lobera acknowledged the disappointment but stressed on the importance of moving forward against the Shers.
With ISL playoff qualification in sight, the Juggernauts will be keen to put their best foot forward in the upcoming matchweeks. Ahead of the game against the Shers, the Spaniard shared his thoughts at the pre-match press conference.
Sergio Lobera will be looking for a quick turnaround
The Spaniard admitted that Odisha FC didn’t have much time to dwell on their previous loss. While emphasizing on the need to recover both physically and mentally, Lobera stated, “The most important thing is to recover the players in terms of physical condition and also in a mental situation because it was painful for us.”
Despite believing his side deserved at least a point against FC Goa, Lobera has quickly shifted focus to the upcoming fixture. While highlighting the excitement of facing Punjab, Lobera sees the game as a fresh opportunity to record all three points.

Are the Juggernauts strong mentally to close out games?
When questioned about the team’s fighting mentality, coach Lobera refuted any claim that his side lacked belief. However, the Spaniard did point towards the small details that often determine the outcome of close games.
While talking about the loss to Goa, he stated, “There are small details in the last game that changed everything.” The Spaniard added that while the Juggernauts had opportunities to draw level, they ultimately fell short on the night due to minor lapses in the game.
With just a few games remaining in the regular season, the Spaniard is aware of the importance of limiting errors. While acknowledging that each match now holds the weight of a final, he stated, “The margin for mistakes is less because every game for us is like a final.”
The Juggernauts are preparing for the Punjab FC challenge
The Odisha FC head coach expects Punjab FC to pose a serious challenge. While praising their attacking intent and compact style of play, Lobera stated, “Punjab is doing an amazing season. They are a brave team, trying to score more goals than the opponent rather than just sitting back.”
While acknowledging that both teams prefer an attacking and front-footed approach, Lobera and his men anticipate an exciting contest for the club’s fans. While the club’s primary focus will remain on themselves, their ability to execute their game plan effectively will be closely watched by the neutrals.
Will Odisha overcome disciplinary Issues and the absence of key players?
One of the significant concerns for Odisha FC heading into the match is the absence of key players, including Ahmed Jahouh and Mourtada Fall. Jahouh, who will be missing after picking up a red card in the previous match, is once again a man under fire after questions about his discipline were raised.
While taking full responsibility for addressing the issue, Lobera stated, “This is my responsibility as a coach. I cannot allow this kind of situation. Everyone can make mistakes, but in crucial moments, it is impossible.” With two important players missing, Lobera emphasized resilience over excuses. Looking at this situation as a positive, the Spaniard sees this as a challenge rather than a setback.
With Odisha FC still in the race to secure a top-six finish, winning the upcoming home games will be crucial for their playoff ambitions. As Odisha FC gears up to face Punjab FC, the team will be looking to put past frustrations behind them and deliver a performance that keeps them in contention for top honors.
