Souvik Chakrabarti signs two-year extension with East Bengal FC

The 33-year-old midfielder has been a mainstay in the East Bengal’s starting lineup this season.
Indian Super League (ISL) club East Bengal FC have reached an agreement with veteran defensive midfielder Souvik Chakrabarti over a new contract. The new deal will see the 33-year-old player wearing the iconic Red and Gold shirt until the 2026-27 season.
The Torchbearers’ defensive midfielder has been one of the first names on head coach Oscar Bruzon’s team sheet. A player known for his fiery and combative play on the field, tying down Chakrabarti to a new contract was always in the club hierarchy’s plan.
Souvik Chakrabarti has made a name for himself

The East Bengal FC defensive midfielder didn’t get much time when he joined the club from Hyderabad FC in August 2022, only making nine appearances throughout the 2022-23 season. However, he did step up in the 2023-24 season making 28 appearances, even making his first goal contribution.
He supplied an assist to Torchbearers striker Cleiton Silva against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the last group game of the Super Cup. With his contributions defensively, East Bengal FC did go on to win the Super Cup, their first silverware in 12 years.

Can Oscar Bruzon’s East Bengal FC make the playoffs?
The Spaniard has received an encouraging response from his side in recent game weeks with the club currently on a three-game winning streak. The Torchbearers still have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, but a lot of their chances will be dependent on other results.
However, the East Bengal FC head coach will be determined to build on the momentum they build this season. Re-signing Souvik to a new deal are one of the building blocks from the Spaniard to firmly establish his ideas into the squad.
As the club approaches a crucial run of games, East Bengal FC will be hoping that their faith in Souvik Chakrabarti through his new contract pays off. With the ISL playoffs fast approaching, the goal for Bruzon and his men to end the season with that winning feeling.
