Punjab FC made a great comeback victory against Chennaiyin.

Punjab FC returned to winning ways and secured their fourth win of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The home side pulled off a comeback win against Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.

Both sides started the game on the front foot and created a few chances in the opening minutes before Wilmar Jordan Gil broke the deadlock and put Chennaiyin FC ahead in the 30th minute.

The Marina Machans managed to hold their lead until half-time. But, Punjab FC came out all guns blazing in the second half and turned the tables around. Luka Majcen pulled a goal back with just a few moments into the second half and brought the game back on level terms before putting his side ahead in the tie a couple of minutes later.

Asmir Suljić scored the third goal and put the game past the visitors. Wilmar Jordan Gil scored a late consolation goal but couldn’t avoid defeat for his side.

A brief look at the points table

Bengaluru FC maintain their lead at the top of the ISL table with 16 points in hand. Mohun Bagan sit at the second spot while Punjab FC have climbed up to the third spot following their win tonight. Jamshedpur FC have slipped down to the fourth spot. NorthEast United continue to be fifth. Odisha FC have been promoted to the sixth spot.

Chennaiyin FC have been relegated to the seventh position after their defeat tonight. Kerala Blasters continue to be positioned eighth with as many points in hand. Mumbai City FC are placed ninth while FC Goa are at tenth. Hyderabad FC continue to be at eleventh. Mohammedan SC and East Bengal are still at the bottom of the table after six matches.
