TG Purushothaman reflects on Kerala Blasters' positives, challenges, and future goals

Kerala Blasters aim to end their season on a high note ahead of their final game against the Nizams.
TG Purushothaman’s Kerala Blasters are gearing up for their final fixture of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season, where they will face Hyderabad FC away from home. With their playoff hopes no longer in sight, they aim to finish the season on a positive note, coming off a hard-fought win against Mumbai City FC at home.
As the season draws to a close, the Blasters’ interim head coach, TG Purushothaman, shares his key takeaways from their journey this season. “It’s a combination of many things. The most important aspect is the development of a few players to a higher level, like Koro Singh. Many players have improved, and we delivered better performances in several matches. However, the results didn’t go our way, which is the only negative aspect we are facing right now.
“On the positive side, the players have put in tremendous effort as a unit, delivering fantastic performances in some good matches. While certain factors led to unfavourable results, the overall performance has been a positive takeaway. The players’ efforts are truly commendable,” said the gaffer.

A season marred by injuries
Injuries have once again been a barrier this season, significantly impacting the Tuskers’ progress. Commenting on his side’s struggle with injuries throughout the campaign, Purushothaman stated,“Injuries are part of the game, every team experiences its ups and downs. As I have always said, sometimes things go well, sometimes they don’t and that’s just how it is. I’m not too concerned about analysing injuries right now. This isn’t the time to dwell on whether it’s good or bad.”
Focus on Super next
“Our focus is solely on the upcoming matches. Now, we have our final match ahead, and after that, we’ll shift our focus to the Super Cup. We’ll evaluate everything at the end of the season and find the best way to move forward positively,” said the tactician.
The Super Cup 2025 is approaching soon, offering the Blasters one last chance to secure silverware this season. Purushothaman, reflecting on his side’s chances in the cup competition, said, “It’s our last chance to make the right decision. We will do everything we can to bring that trophy to our shelf. Let’s aim for that, and we are preparing accordingly. Since our last two matches, we have been focused on this goal. Hopefully, we will see it through successfully.”
