Mohun Bagan have fired up their frontline with the signing of Scottish forward Lee Erwin before the start of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) campaign.

The 32-year-old forward has ended up being their sixth foreigner for the season ahead and has been roped in as the replacement for the departed Jason Cummings in the squad as well.

In Erwin, the Mariners now have a new experienced goal-scorer who will be bringing a wealth of knowledge and uniqueness to their attack. The Scottish forward has had a pretty eventful career so far, playing for notable clubs like Leeds United, Kilmarnock, Motherwell and St. Mirren in his career.

The Mariners have high hopes for the 32-year-old forward to be an inspired frontline option for them and bolster their push to win the 2026-27 ISL title.

For that, they’ll need a striker who can lead the aggressive pressing really well, and Lee Erwin should be able to help them with that.

The 32-year-old can be a pretty energetic figure in the opposition half and he’ll look to win over the gaffer by being precise and relentless in pressing the opposition defenders when they try to play the ball out of the backline. He’ll need to be smart with his pressing tactics and also look to motivate those around him to be bolder in stepping up and closing down areas for the opponents to reclaim possession in the danger zones.

If he’s able to really nail his high pressing qualities, then Erwin would not only have a positive impact on the overall energy levels of the Mohun Bagan team but also help them realize Dilmperis’ vision rather effectively.

1. Being a clinical outlet inside the penalty area

The biggest reason why Mohun Bagan has roped in Lee Erwin in the first place is because of his goal-scoring acumen and the kind of danger figure he can be in & around the opponents’ penalty area. The Scottish forward has made a career out of scoring impressive goals from inside the box, and he’ll need to elevate that quality of his to be a dangerous goal-scoring option for the Mariners.
