Sergio Lobera’s men dictated the tempo from the opening whistle, creating several early chances. Chennaiyin FC suffered a massive setback just past the half-hour mark when starting goalkeeper Mohammad Nawaz was forced off due to an injury, making way for Samik Mitra.

The Mariners capitalized on their dominance deep into first-half stoppage time. Anirudh Thapa delivered a magnificent long-range through ball to slice open the Marina Machans' defense. Jamie Maclaren [45+3'] timed his run to perfection and clinically slotted the ball past the substitute keeper to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.

Chennaiyin FC tried to find a way back into the contest in the second half, with head coach Clifford Miranda introducing fresh legs, including Farukh Choudhary and Gurkirat Singh. Under new head coach Sergio Lobera, the Mariners dominated possession but had to remain patient against a stubborn Blasters defense organized by David Català. The breakthrough arrived in the 36th minute when Dimitri Petratos slipped a pass to Jamie Maclaren inside the box. The Australian striker turned his defender and drilled a composed left-footed finish past Sachin Suresh to open the season's scoring account.

Kerala Blasters pushed for an equalizer in the second half, with substitute Kevin Yoke adding pace to the flanks, but they struggled to test Vishal Kaith in goal. Mohun Bagan finally put the game to bed deep into stoppage time. Anirudh Thapa delivered a pinpoint free-kick, and substitute Tom Aldred [90+7'] rose highest to power a header home, sealing all three points for the home side.
