ISL 2024-2025: Top 5 Indian players from match week 17

A list featuring some of the best Indian players from ISL match week 17.

The conclusion of the match week 17 of the 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season witnessed Indian players making decisive contributions to their teams. From solid defensive performances to scoring crucial goals, Indian players stepped up when it mattered.

With the clubs entering the business end of the season, Indian players have stepped up their games ahead of the ISL playoffs.

Here’s a list of the top five Indian players who stood out this week for their respective clubs:

5. Brison Fernandes (FC Goa)

Fernandes once again stepped up for Manolo Marquez’s side while delivering a match-winning performance against East Bengal FC. The 23-year-old opened the scoring for his side with a lovely header from a fine cross from Spaniard Borja Herrera.

The 13th-minute strike helped the club have a coveted goal in a game which was contested right down to the wire. Fernandes’ goal is a testament to his growing importance for FC Goa this season. With 6 goals and an assist in 16 games, he continues to deliver crucial goals when it matters most for his club this season.

4. Sachin Suresh (Kerala Blasters FC)

The Kerala Blasters’ shot stopper was a rock between the posts in their goalless draw against NorthEast United FC. With a commanding presence and crucial saves, Suresh helped ensure that his side left were always in with a chance in the game.

Despite being under pressure early in the season and being dropped from the starting eleven, the 24-year-old has been immense in recent games. His excellent reflexes and ability to deal with high-pressure situations highlight how much he has improved.

With 4 clean sheets this season, and being one of the most improved players for the Tuskers, Suresh is proving his doubters wrong.

3. Devendra Murgaokar (Hyderabad FC)

The Hyderabad FC right midfielder played an instrumental in Hyderabad FC’s 1-1 draw with Bengaluru FC. The forward opened the scoring for his side with a vital goal. Following a quickly taken free-kick, the Bengaluru FC defence was on sixes and sevens, with the ball ending up on the feet of Ramhlunchhunga.

The winger showed great dribbling skills to beat his marker and deliver a perfect ball to an unmarked Devendra on the back post. While demonstrating his knack for being in the right place at the right time, Murgaokar’s goal gave them the perfect start against Bengaluru FC. Murgaokar’s relentless work rate and ability to exploit defensive weaknesses make him a tough night for any defender.

2. Korou Singh (Kerala Blasters FC)

Another standout performer for Kerala Blasters was the young and versatile Korou Singh. He played a pivotal role in their defensive resilience against NorthEast United FC after the team went down to 10 men. After Aiban was sent off in the 31st minute, the Tuskers came under a tremendous amount of pressure.

He slotted in a defensive role, making some timely tackles, and showed great ability to cut off attacking threats. Moving away from his instincts as an attacker, Singh was immense as he helped his side keep an invaluable clean sheet.

1. Sunil Chhetri (Bengaluru FC)

The 40-year proved once again why he remains a force to be reckoned with in the ISL this season. Chhetri’s clinical finish in Bengaluru FC’s 1-1 draw against Hyderabad FC showcased his poise and unmatched experience to deliver for his side when it matters.

Despite going down early in the game to Murgaokar’s goal, the Blues captain was once again the leading light in what could have been another loss. With his 10th goal in 16 games, Chhetri ended his 2-game goal drought and helped the Blues earn an invaluable point. His leadership on the pitch was evident for his side and inspired his teammates in a tightly contested match.
