Why will Victor Bertomeu, Korou Singh be unavailable for Kerala Blasters' match against East Bengal?

Victor Bertomeu has been suspended for three matches.

Kerala Blasters FC have confirmed that their Spanish striker will serve a three-match suspension following a red card issued through retrospective action after the club’s most recent Indian Super League fixture. The disciplinary decision means the Spanish striker will miss the Blasters’ next three matches, dealing a setback to the team as they navigate a crucial phase of the season.

Along with that, Kerala Blasters have also confirmed that Korou Singh will be unavailable for selection for an indefinite period due to personal reasons.

“Kerala Blasters FC can confirm that Victor Bertomeu will serve a three-match suspension due to a red card as a result of retrospective action after the club’s last fixture. The club can also confirm that Korou Singh will be unavailable for selection for an indefinite period due to personal reasons,” – the official statement from the Blasters read.

Why was Victor suspended for three games?

In the match against Chennaiyin FC, the red card incident took place in the 68th minute. Ebindas took a shot from distance, which, after deflecting Pritam Kotal, went for a corner kick. Even though Blasters did their best to find the back of the net, the strong Chennaiyin defensive unit kept the Blasters players paralysed.

Out of frustration, Victor elbowed Laldinliana Renthlei in an off-the-ball incident, inside the penalty box. Since the offence took place off the ball, the referee did not notice the foul. The suspension was imposed after the league’s disciplinary committee reviewed the incident and determined that it warranted a red card.

As the offence was identified through retrospective review, Bertomeu did not receive the card during the match itself but will now face the standard three-game ban under competition regulations.

Korou Singh, who was unavailable for the match against Chennaiyin, will also miss the match due to personal reasons. The club did not disclose further details regarding the situation but stated that the player will remain away from team activities for the time being.

With Bertomeu sidelined through suspension and Korou Singh unavailable, Kerala Blasters will have to reshuffle their squad depth ahead of the upcoming matches. The team will be hoping to maintain momentum despite these setbacks as they continue their campaign.
