Steven Dias announced as interim head coach of Jamshedpur FC following Khalid Jamil's departure

Former India international Steven Dias was working as Khalid Jamil’s deputy.

After Khalid Jamil was appointed the head coach of the Indian national football team, Jamshedpur FC have put Steven Dias at the helm for an interim period. The former Indian international has been a part of the Red Miners setup for the last couple of years.

As the assistant coach, Dias has been closely involved with the first team, which would help him transition into the head coach role ahead of the next season.

Earlier, Khalid Jamil was announced as the Indian head coach by AIFF on a two-year contract. His contract also includes an option to extend for another year. Khalid’s appointment comes after Manolo Marquez left the job following a series of disappointing results since his arrival.

This appointment comes as a massive fillip to the trajectory of Steven Dias’s managerial career. He has served as the assistant manager for Jamshedpur FC earlier as well, but this time the club has shown faith in him and promoted him to the main job. The former Indian midfielder has been relentlessly working at the grassroots level, managing youngsters.

Before he rejoined Jamshedpur FC’s setup, he worked with Odisha FC as assistant manager and caretaker manager for a brief period. Following that stint, he decided to dive deep and took up the managerial role at Oranje FC. The club from Maharashtra recently played in the I-League 2. This stint persuaded the Red Miners administration to bring him back. On his return to Jamshedpur, he took over the reserves side while serving as the assistant to Khalid Jamil.

It will be interesting to see if the club decides to continue and keep him in the job for the long term. For now, he has been given the interim role. If Steven Dias continues as the manager for Jamshedpur FC, he will join the short and illustrious list of Indian managers in the Indian Super League. This job comes with a big challenge, expected to test Dias’ ability to manage an ISL side with the spotlight on him.

Jamshedpur FC on an impressive run

Khalid Jamil has done an impressive job with Jamshedpur FC. Last season, the Red Miners were in contention for silverware. They finished fifth in the league season, making their way to the playoffs. Their campaign ended in the semi-finals at the hands of Bengaluru FC, but there’s no denying that it was an impressive campaign.

Following their run to the ISL playoffs, Jamshedpur continued their momentum in the Kalinga Super Cup. Khalid-Jamil’s led side made it to the final of the competition. The club could not cross the final hurdle, conceding a 3-0 defeat against FC Goa.

The 2025-26 season has started, and Jamshedpur have picked things up where they left off. With an impeccable record in the group stage, the club has qualified for the Durand Cup quarter-finals. They will face Diamond Harbour FC in the third quarterfinal on August 17, at the JRD Tata Sports Complex in Jamshedpur.
