Khalid Jamil keen to secure first ever continental spot for Jamshedpur FC in Kalinga Super Cup Finals

A continental spot is up for grabs in the Kalinga Super Cup Final.
Imagine a club like Khalid Jamil’s Jamshedpur FC, that have never made it to the finals of any major competition, going all out to surprisingly win the Kalinga Super Cup, toppling big stalwarts like Mumbai City FC, North East United FC and even FC Goa.

On the importance of playing in the Finals
Coach Khalid Jamil feels that there is no second chance in the Finals, and they would be keen to put their best foot forward in the Kalinga Super Cup Finals. He also feels that how historic and big occasion for Jamshedpur, as they have a golden opportunity to secure a continental spot.
Khalid said, “It’s a huge motivation for us. If we win, it will be the first time Jamshedpur FC secures a continental slot. That’s massive for the players, for the club, and for the fans. So, we are fully focused on making this opportunity count.”
Do the past wins over Goa boost his morale?
After Jamshedpur FC’s win over FC Goa twice in the regular season, Khalid Jamil became the first-ever coach to complete a league double over national team coach Manolo Marquez. Despite an excellent track record, Khalid feels it is important to show respect to your opponents, and he admits that Goa is a really strong side and getting past Goa won’t be easy.
He added, “As I’ve always said, finals are different. There’s no second chance, either you win or you lose. So mentally, we need to be very strong. FC Goa is a good side, and I have a lot of respect for Manolo Márquez. We must be ready, alert, and at our best.”
Barla gets emotional ahead of the Finals
Nikhil Barla has been in sublime form for the Red Miners. The young local lad from Khunti has not just been a live wire from the flanks, but also has impressed massively in different roles from right back to right wing-back. He got nostalgic, recalling how fast time has changed for him.
Nikhil Barla said, “It’s a very proud feeling. I joined the Tata Football Academy in 2018, and now to represent the senior team in such a big match is very special, not just for me but for my family as well. It’s a dream come true.”
