Following a competitive 2024-25 Indian Super League (ISL) season where they finished at the top of the tree, Mohun Bagan Super Giant and FC Goa have once again shown their worth in the Kalinga Super Cup.

The ISL Shield and Cup winners, Mohun Bagan, have registered a depleted squad for the Super Cup. However, this didn’t stop the Mariners from beating the Kerala Blasters 2-1 in the quarterfinals.

FC Goa on the other hand registered a dominant 3-0 win over Gokulam Kerala and followed it up with a late comeback against Punjab FC to win 2-1 in injury time. With Manolo Marquez set to resign his role, winning the Super Cup would be the icing on the cake for the Gaurs.

Mohun Bagan vs FC Goa: What to expect?

On paper, FC Goa are the favourites against Mohun Bagan given that they have registered a strong squad for the tournament. However, the Mariners are known to churn out results and frustrate their opponents.

With Spanish coaches on both sides, we can expect teams to retain possession. The midfield battles between the two teams will arguably be the detrimental factor in deciding the result of this match.

Sahal Abdul Samad is the most influential player in Mohun Bagan’s Kalinga Super Cup squad and he will be the player to watch once again. FC Goa on the other hand will be relying on Iker Guarrotxena’s instincts to get the goals, given that the Spaniard has already scored a hattrick in the tournament.

FC Goa and Mohun Bagan met each other in the Kalinga Super Cup in 2023. The Gaurs registered a 1-0 win that night in the group stage game courtesy of a late goal by Fares Arnout.

The Kalinga Super Cup semi-final match between Mohun Bagan and FC Goa will be played on 30th April 2025 (Wednesday). The Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar is set to host the match and the game will kick-off at 4:30 pm IST.
