Churchill Brothers midfielder Martin Chaves joins Gokulam Kerala

The Uruguayan joins the Malabarians from Churchill Brothers 

Gokulam Kerala FC have signed 25-year-old Uruguayan linchpin, Martin Chaves on a two-year deal, the club confirmed on Thursday, the 2nd of May. 

Chaves brings in a lot of charisma, and fresh blood into Kerala’s squad for the upcoming season, and is a player who has a lot of prior experience of playing in India. 

Having first set foot in India back in 2019, Chaves initially played with Northeast United FC in the ISL. In his season-long stint with the Highlanders, Chaves made six goal contributions in 18 games and was amongst Northeast’s most influential players from the season. 

After leaving the club in 2020, Chaves made a return to the subcontinent in August 2022, when Rajasthan United roped him in. Midway through the season, Churchill Brothers came into the picture and acquired the services of the Uruguayan. 

Since then, Martin has had 17 goal contributions for the Red Machines, and his performances have been crucial in Churchill’s journey in the I League. 

As Chaves now joins Gokulam, the move certainly is a step in the right direction for the youngster, who now aims at making an impact at one of the biggest clubs in the league, which is surely going to be in contention for the I League title next season. 

Chaves’ signing is also an important step for Gokulam in their fight for the I League title, and the promotion to the ISL. The Malabarians have been in contention for the top spot in the table for two years in a row now, and will once again be at the helm of an exciting and mouth-watering contest for the I League title. 

Martin surely adds a lot more quality to Gokulam Kerala’s squad, and it will be interesting to see how the Uruguayan impacts Kerala’s quest for glory.
