Three Mohun Bagan players who can benefit from Miguel Figueira's signing

The Mariners just signed East Bengal star Miguel Figueira ahead of the new season

Miguel Figueira is definitely poised to bring some freshness to Mohun Bagan’s squad after his surprise arrival at the club in the 2026 summer transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder stunned many by opting against renewing his deal with East Bengal, whom he played a crucial role in helping to win the 2025-26 Indian Super League (ISL) championship, before going onto join their bitter rivals.

Despite becoming a loathed figure among many East Bengal fans, he’s now gotten new admirers in the form of the Mohun Bagan faithful. Figueira will be expected to justify his big signing by helping improve the attacking threat for the Mariners and upholding his reputation after winning the ISL Golden Ball last season.

He’ll be given the keys to playing an inspired role in the Mariners’ frontline and be expected to help get the best out of those around him as well.

Miguel’s unpredictable playing style often has a beneficial impact on his teammates, especially the attacking players, and the Mariners will hope he can play to his best ability to fire up their attack next season. Here, we look at the three Mohun Bagan players capable of benefitting the most from Miguel Figueira’s signing.

3. Liston Colaco

Liston Colaco had a pretty underwhelming 2025-26 campaign for Mohun Bagan, only being able to score one goal all through the ISL campaign. He did manage 39 shots, but it’s clear that many of those opportunities were actually not in prime scorable positions. Now, the Indian winger can potentially benefit from linking up with a tricky player like Miguel Figueira from next season onward. Miguel thrives at link-up play and being able to send his teammates through on goal with his clever final-third passes.

Moreover, he can also carry the ball into the danger zones – which can possibly give more freedom for Liston to take a few risks and try to move into the danger areas to position himself into prime shooting positions. Colaco should get to have more goal-scoring chances for himself after the arrival of a creative player like Figueira, and once the two have a solid understanding of each other – this exciting partnership could be vital for Mohun Bagan’s success.

2. Dejan Drazic

Just like Miguel Figueira, Dejan Drazic is another major signing made by Mohun Bagan ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. The Serbian forward gained most of his fame in Indian football at FC Goa, for whom he scored nine goals across two seasons. Drazic should also be able to excel thanks to the presence of the Brazilian midfielder in the Mohun Bagan attack, allowing the Serbian to thrive at the Mariners. Drazic’s impressive IQ levels and link-up ability should help him form great chemistry with Figueira, allowing them to help build up unpredictable attacking moves for the Mariners.

Drazic just needs to be smart with his off-the-ball movement and he’ll look to constantly move into the danger areas in the final third to allow Figueira to play him through on goal. Drazic realizes that he’ll need to be consistent with his goal-scoring qualities to justify his major price-tag at Mohun Bagan, and he can probably get way more goal-scoring opportunities thanks to the impressive ability of Miguel to help send his teammates through on goal.

1. Jamie Maclaren

Jamie Maclaren was one of Mohun Bagan’s best players in their 2025-26 ISL campaign, scoring 10 goals and often carrying them to prominent results. The Australian forward, however, barely received as much as support as he would’ve ideally liked in the frontline for the Mariners. This was mostly because of the lack of a proper, creative no.10 – but that can now change with the arrival of a vibrant player like Miguel Figueira.  The Brazilian midfielder had formed a great partnership with Youssef Ezzejjairi at East Bengal last season, and was responsible for creating so many big chances for him.

Now, he’ll be looking to create a similarly devious partnership with Maclaren, who can probably get a breath of fresh air by coming with the Brazilian. Figueira will be tasked with properly keeping feeding lethal passes to Maclaren in the final third and always looking to find the Australian forward in key goal-scoring areas inside the box to enhance his chances of scoring way more decisive goals next season.

Which Mohun Bagan player could benefit the most from Miguel Figueira’s arrival?

Australian striker Jamie Maclaren could benefit the most, as Figueira’s creativity and chance creation are expected to provide him with more scoring opportunities.

How can Miguel Figueira improve Liston Colaco’s performances?

Figueira’s link-up play and ability to deliver key passes can help Liston Colaco receive the ball in better attacking positions, increasing his chances of scoring and creating goals.
