Next Generation Cup: Top five players who played in ISL
Several ISL players have played in the Next Generation Cup.
The Premier League Next Generation Cup, organized by Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) in collaboration with the Premier League, has emerged as a vital platform for nurturing young football talent. Since its inception in 2020, this tournament has provided a unique opportunity for clubs from India, England and South Africa to showcase their budding stars.
Many Indian Super League (ISL) clubs like Bengaluru FC, Kerala Blasters and Mohun Bagan have participated alongside renowned English clubs like Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and many more.
As the fourth edition kicks off on August 1st, featuring Indian clubs East Bengal, Punjab FC and Muthoot FA, we spotlight the top five Indian players who have made significant strides in their careers after featuring in the PL Next Gen tournament.
In this article, we will look at the five best Indian players to have played in the Premier League Next Generation Cup:
5. Robin Yadav
Robin Yadav, a versatile defender, participated in the 2022 edition of the PL Next Gen tournament. Representing Bengaluru FC, Yadav showcased his defensive prowess and tactical awareness. His performances earned him a spot in the Bengaluru FC squad for the 2023-24 ISL season, where he made six appearances, accumulating 237 minutes of playing time.
Although primarily used as a substitute, Yadav demonstrated composure and potential. The BFC academy graduate has now moved to NorthEast United for the upcoming ISL season.
4. Sachin Suresh
Goalkeeper Sachin Suresh had a breakthrough season with Kerala Blasters in the ISL, following his participation in the 2022 edition of the Next Gen tournament.
Known for his quick reflexes and strong presence in the box, Suresh was a key figure for Kerala Blasters after the departure of Prabhsukhan Gill. He started in 13 games during the season, delivering solid performances until an injury sidelined him.
Suresh’s experience in the Next Gen Cup helped him transition smoothly to senior football, where he continues to be a promising prospect for his both club.

3. Mohammed Aimen
Midfielder Mohammed Aimen also had his breakthrough with Kerala Blasters last season, having featured in the 2022 Next Gen tournament. Aimen’s creativity and vision in midfield have been crucial for his team, as evidenced by his 21 appearances for the senior side. His ability to control the tempo of the game and contribute both defensively and offensively have made him a valuable asset.
Aimen’s journey from the youth setup to becoming a regular starter highlights the importance of tournaments like PL Next Gen in providing young talents with the exposure and experience needed to succeed at higher levels.
2. Sivasakthi Narayanan
Sivasakthi Narayanan is a forward who took an unusual career path, first establishing himself in the ISL before participating in the PL Next Gen tournament. With 46 senior appearances and eight goals, Sivasakthi has proven himself as a reliable goalscorer.
His participation in the Next Gen tournament was an opportunity to further hone his skills and gain international experience. Sivasakthi’s speed, dribbling ability and knack for finding the back of the net make him one of the most exciting young talents in Indian football.
1. Jeakson Singh
Topping our list is Jeakson Singh, a midfielder who has already made history as the first Indian to score in a FIFA U-17 World Cup. Singh’s experience and maturity on the field have been evident throughout his career. With 76 senior appearances, he was a key player for Kerala Blasters before moving to East Bengal this summer.
Jeakson’s performances in the PL Next Gen tournament solidified his reputation as a player to watch. His ability to break up play, distribute the ball efficiently and contribute offensively makes him a complete midfielder.
