The young centre-back has a knack for scoring headers.

After booking a continental spot by winning the Kalinga Super Cup, FC Goa have bolstered their defence by acquiring the services of the young Shillong Lajong defender, Ronney Wilson.

According to the source, the Goa outfit has agreed terms with the Indian centre back for a multi-year deal and the paperwork is set to be signed soon.

Despite a disappointing I-League campaign for Shillong, Wilson’s performance was a cut above. Wilson’s addition to the Gaurs’ setup not only appears to be a prospect but will also immensely benefit the young lad to hone his skills among the best players and coaches in the country.

The 22-year-old centre-back from Meghalaya has played in 15 games for Shillong Lajong in the I-League this season. He has previously featured for clubs like Langsning FC and the Sports Authority of India Guwahati team.

He is a no-nonsense defender who is usually deployed in the centre back position. His acceleration with the ball and his ability to push forward make him an excellent player to switch and transition between defensive and attacking styles. He emerges as a major threat during set pieces as he can also contribute via headed goals.

What can Ronney Wilson bring to FC Goa?

FC Goa already has a strong defensive pair of Sandesh Jhinghan and captain Odei Onaindia guarding their defence with two wingbacks, Ashish Sangwan and Boris Singh marshalling the Goan defence. Ronney can emerge as a solid backup option and can also feature in tournaments like the Durand Cup and Bandokar Trophy.

With Hrithik Tiwari recently making headlines, the Goan setup has always favoured and prioritised nurturing young talents for the future ambitions of the club. Young Wilson will train under the tutelage of some of the top footballing talents at the Fatorda, and sharing the dressing room with the elites will be of immense benefit for him.
