India and Nepal will square off in the second semi-final of the SAFF U17 Championship 2025.

Indian U17 men’s football team have made their way to the semi-finals of the SAFF U17 Championship 2025 following a dominating run in the group stage. The Blue Colts will face Nepal in the second semi-final on September 25. The match will be played at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo, with the scheduled kick-off at 7:30 PM IST.

The defending SAFF U17 champions have an unblemished record so far in the tournament with three consecutive victories. At the same time, the journey has not been that similar for Nepal. With a win and a loss, Nepal finished second in Group A with three points, behind Bangladesh.

Blue Colts aim for another final appearance

The group stage has gone as Bibiano Fernandes would have expected. However, he would want more from his team in terms of control on the pitch. Against Bhutan and Pakistan, the defending champions struggled to dictate terms. The Blue Colts struggled to score against Bhutan. A 1-0 result against Bhutan reflects the struggle that Bibiano’s boys went through in breaking Bhutan’s defence.

In the game against Pakistan, the Blue Colts scored three goals but failed to put on a compact defensive performance as they conceded two goals. The semi-final would be a stage where India cannot afford to commit errors.

Nepal have also struggled defensively, but they would not be pushovers. The key for Nepal to take the game deep will be not to concede early in the game against the group B toppers. An early goal would put them under pressure, giving the opposition the space to make their attacking manoeuvres with freedom. If spaces open in Nepal’s defence, that would prove to be catastrophic for their chances of making their fifth final appearance in the SAFF U17 Championship.
