India lift SAFF Women’s Championship title after seven years

After a disappointing campaign in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the Blue Tigresses are back to winning ways after becoming the champions of SAFF Women’s Championship 2026.

India had a dominating campaign in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026 as they went on to score a total of 18 goals in 4 games and conceded just one goal. They went on to thrash Maldives 11-0 in the opening game before beating defending champions Bangladesh 3-0 to top Group B.

In the semifinal, they easily cruised past Bhutan to make it to their sixth SAFF Women’s Championship final. The two-time SAFF Champions Bangladesh were eyeing a hattrick, but India were determined to add another silverware to their trophy cabinet and defeated Bangladesh 3-1 in the finals.

It was a tale of valour, dominance and pride as India, the most successful side in the history of SAFF Women’s Championship lifted their sixth title in SAFF Women’s Championship. Nonetheless, it was a complete team effort. From the resolute Indian defence keeping three clean sheets to the forwards scoring a flurry of goals.

However, some individual players made a mark for themselves in this tournament. In this article, we take a closer look at all the individual award winners of SAFF Women’s Championship 2026.

The midfielder from Meghalaya just turned 21 a few days ago. She stepped up for her country when it mattered the most. Even at just 21, she exhibited immense maturity and stayed calm under high pressure situations. She netted 2 goals in the tournament and dominated throughout.

Despite a high scoring group stage campaign, Indian forwards struggled to break the deadlock and thats when Sanfida stepped up and scored.

The former Garhwal United midfielder is a big-match player. She went on to score against Bhutan in the semifinal and her solitary goal propelled India to the SAFF Finals.

In the finals, when the score was levelled 1-1, she scored in the early minutes of the second half and shifted the momentum in India’s favour.

Golden Boot – Aveka Singh

The player scored 4 goals and shockingly all of the goals came in just one game against Maldives in the opening clash of SAFF Women’s Championship 2026.

Despite not scoring in the other games, she was a constant attacking threat and created a lot of scoring opportunities in the knockout games against Bhutan and Bangladesh.

From winning back-to-back IWL titles with East Bengal to winning the SAFF Women’s Championship with India after seven long years, silverwares just keep following the 30-year-old custodian.
