SAFF Women's Championship 2026: India Women vs Bhutan Women All-Time Head-to-Head Record

Blue Tigresses meet the Dragon Ladies after 14 years

The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa gears up to host the semi-final match between hosts India and Bhutan, where both teams are a win away from reaching the finals of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2026.

After thrashing the Maldives in the opener, India managed to defeat defending champions Bangladesh 3-0 in the previous game to emerge as the table toppers of Group B.

The Blue Tigresses managed to keep a clean sheet in both games and also scored a total of 14 goals in just 2 games.

Bhutan are making it to the semi-finals in the last two editions and is in terrific form. Despite a narrow defeat to Nepal in the opener, they bounced back strongly against Sri Lanka. A hat-trick from Tshering and a goal from Lhazom saw them win 4-0 and finish second in Group A.

Ahead of the semi final game between Blue Tigresses and Bhutan, we take a ride down memory lane to find out what happened when India played Bhutan last and who has had the upper hand in history.

No spoiler, but the last time these two sides met, it has always been a one sided affair.

When India met Bhutan in the maiden edition of the SAFF Women’s Championship

Bir Shrestha Ruhul Amin Stadium in Bangladesh geared up to host the inaugural edition of the Women’s SAFF Championship in 2010.

Both India and Bhutan were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The opening encounter saw these two sides locking horns for the first time.

It was a deadly Indian side led by India’s top two all-time highest goalscorers, Bala Devi, who scored five and Sasmita Mallik, who scored seven goals. It was a pretty one sided affair and India defeated Bhutan 18-0 and recorded their biggest win ever

Bhutan only managed to clinch just a point from that group, whereas Blue Tigresses later went on to win the SAFF Women’s Championship without conceding even a single goal in the tournament.

India again scored double digit goals against Bhutan in 2012

Two years later, these two sides again met at the Ceylonese Rugby & Football Club Grounds in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Again, Blue Army and Bhutan were drawn together alongside Bangladesh and hosts Sri Lanka.

In the first two games, the girls were coming after two wins over Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bhutan had a contrasting form and were coming after a 4-0 defeat to Sri Lanka and a narrow defeat to Bangladesh, but their biggest challenge was yet to come.

In the final group stage game, India went on to ran riot and scored 11 goals to win the match 11-0 against the Dragon Ladies. Pinky Bompal Magar scored a hattrick whereas Kamala Devi scored a brace and India went on to top their group and Bhutan’s campaign ended without a win.

Blue Tigresses later went on to defeat Afghanistan in the semi-finals and Nepal in the finals to win the SAFF Women’s Championship for the second time.

India vs Bhutan: All-time head-to-head

Total matches: 02

India won: 02

Bhutan won: 00

Matches drawn: 00

The Blue Tigresses have an upper hand in this fixture and they are unarguably one of the most dominating sides in South East Asia. In the two games between these sides, India won them all with very big margins.

However, a lot has changed in the last twelve years. Crispin Chettri’s side, who are the most successful team, have failed to reach the finals in the last two editions, whereas Bhutan, whose campaign ended in the group stages, have regularly made it to the semi-finals in the last two editions.
