East Bengal aim for first win in Super Cup against Chennaiyin FC

East Bengal played out a draw against Dempo SC in the Super Cup.

In a battle of two Indian Super League (ISL) sides, Chennaiyin FC and East Bengal both fight to get their first points in the group stages of the 2025 Super Cup when they meet at the GMC Athletic Stadium on Tuesday (28 October 2025).

With both sides desperate for a win, this should be a highly entertaining match between two sides yet to find their stride in the 2025-26 season.

The Stakes

Chennaiyin FC

Chennaiyin FC had a disappointing start to the Clifford Miranda era, as they were defeated by Mohun Bagan in their Super Cup 2025 opener. The Marina Machans did show some admirable fight against the ISL giants, but they came up short and are eager to get back on track in the next game.

Miranda will need his players to keep a much sturdier defensive shape to frustrate the Red & Gold Brigade and he’ll also need them to be quicker and more decisive on the transitions.

A win for Chennaiyin FC can be a huge motivational booster for Miranda and his side, proving their quality against ISL opponents. However, another defeat in the Super Cup could cause serious questions to start coming up about the capability of Miranda’s squad this season.

East Bengal

East Bengal also had an underwhelming beginning to their Super Cup campaign as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Dempo in disappointing fashion.

That was a big setback to their attempts to make it to the knockout stages of the Super Cup, as the Red & Gold Brigade aim to make up with a much more prolific performance against Chennaiyin FC.

The Kolkata giants will need to be way more prolific in finishing off their opportunities perfectly to get a commanding win over their fellow ISL side, while also being less error-prone with their defensive work.

A big win for East Bengal can definitely raise their momentum levels ahead of the Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan, but dropping points could cause them to get eliminated from the tournament even before the big game.

Yadwad needs to make use of his clever off-the-ball movement qualities and physicality to hassle the East Bengal defenders and cause them to make mistakes.

While he will need to be smart with his link-up play and in trying to create chances for teammates, Yadwad will mostly be tasked to getting at the end of chances and putting them away efficiently to really trouble the East Bengal side and finally get a goal in the Super Cup.

Miguel Ferreira (East Bengal)

Miguel Ferreira might not have been in the East Bengal starting lineup in the Dempo draw, but he made a positive impact for them after coming off the bench.
