After topping their group alongside clubs from Nepal, Oman and Pakistan, the Mariners made it to the semi-finals. They have also featured in the Asian second tier seven times, and their best finish came back in 2021 and 2022, where they reached the Inter Zone Semi Finals.

The Mariners were infamously in news after they refused to travel to Iran, citing safety concerns ahead of their game against Sepahan. This resulted in Mohun Bagan getting disqualified from AFC Champions League 2 for two back to back seasons.
