Kerala Blasters FC eye semi-final spot in Super Cup 2025-26 with win against Mumbai City FC

Blasters are currently at the top of the table with six points.

Mumbai City FC will face Kerala Blasters FC on Thursday, November 6, in a much-awaited, crucial Group D encounter of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.

The Blasters are at the top of the table with two wins, while Mumbai, with a win and a loss, are currently in third place.

With one game remaining for either side and a semi-final qualification at stake, the match between the Islanders and the Tuskers will be a nail-biting encounter to watch.

The Stakes

For Mumbai City FC, a win is the only available resort to keep them alive in the tournament. Although the Islanders had a strong start to the tournament, they suffered a setback after a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Rajasthan United.

They have dropped the crucial points and are placed in third position with 3 points and a goal difference of +2. The Islanders were one of the favourites to qualify for the knockouts, topping Group D of the Super Cup. Therefore, along with the knockout spot, their pride and legacy are also on the line.

A defeat against the Blasters will end their Super Cup campaign and could raise questions among fans about the team’s potential.

A win by at least a two-goal margin over the Blasters is the only option for the two-time ISL champions to advance to the AIFF Super Cup and strengthen the belief of both the squad and the fans for the remainder of the tournament and the Indian Super League.

For the Kerala Blasters FC, the Super Cup is a golden opportunity to justify their preseason preparations and the signing of their recruits.

A commendable performance against Mumbai would provide a statement of intent and hope to the Manjappada that KBFC is here to contend for the title, and the club’s glory is well within reach.

Currently placed at the first position, if KBFC manages to either defeat or hold the Islanders to a stalemate, it would cement their position as the table toppers and progress them to the knockout stages of the Super Cup and possibly clinch the club’s maiden silverware, which would also represent the Blasters at the Asian level for the first time.

However, statistically, even a point will take the Blasters into the semi-final match against Group B leaders FC Goa. David Catala and his side would be looking to clinch all three points, which would provide a huge psychological advantage for KBFC before facing a strong Goan side.

Team News

At the moment, there are no major injury concerns for Mumbai City and Kerala Blasters, giving head coaches Peter Kratky and David Catala the autonomy to deploy their best players in the crucial encounter, which would determine their fate in the AIFF Super Cup.

Player To Watch Out For

Vikram Partap Singh, the versatile forward of the Islanders, is their beacon of hope for their do-or-die fixture of the Super Cup. The 22-year-old’s performance will be crucial in defeating the Blasters and regaining the top spot.

After a breakthrough performance against Sporting Club Delhi, where he scored two important goals, Vikram would be resolute, more than ever, to demonstrate the same level of performance and emerge as Mumbai’s hero.

As Mumbai City FC are all set to face the unbeaten Kerala side, who are yet to concede a goal in the Super Cup, Vikram will be expected to complement Chhangte and Diaz with his speedy runs and goal-scoring hunger, with awareness and flair in the final third.

In this high-stakes encounter, Vikram’s performance could prove pivotal in turning the tables around and restoring Mumbai City FC’s dominance in Indian football.

Kerala Blasters FC – Korou Singh

The 18-year-old Manipuri winger has cemented his place as a regular starter for the Blasters with his impressive performances.

In the 2024/25 ISL Season, Korou Singh was one of the very few bright sparks for the Tuskers as the winger scored two impressive goals and even provided four vital assists for his side.

Coming off a solid international break, where he scored a crucial goal against the Indonesia U23 side, Korou will now be determined to bring his flair to the club level.

After a good performance in the first match, Korou came in full vigour for the game against Sporting Club Delhi as he excellently set the tone for the Blasters’ second goal and just minutes later scored an acrobatic goal to seal the victory for his side.

If Korou can display his accelerated runs through the flanks and create chances for his teammates, he could provide a lethal blow to Mumbai City FC.
