The high-flying Punjab FC will face Mohammedan SC, who cannot boast of a win in their opener. The Black Panthers fell short against Sunil Chhetri’s Bengaluru FC. Their 0-2 loss came at the courtesy of Bengaluru’s youngest and their oldest players. 18-year-old Taorem Kelvin Singh scored in the first half while the 41-year-old Chhetri converted from the spot in the second to bring all three points for the Blues.

Punjab FC will aim to keep their place intact

Punjab FC currently sit pretty at the top of the group with 3 points and a +3 goal difference. However, with Bengaluru playing the depleted Gokulam side, Punjab will look to maintain a solid goal difference and not just win the game.

After what we saw unfold in Group A, where Mohun Bagan fell short of qualifying purely based on inferior goal difference to East Bengal, other teams will want to be more clinical with their goal-scoring opportunities, as every goal scored will count and every chance squandered can come back to haunt them.

Mohammedan SC and Punjab FC are the two latest entrants to the Indian Super League, with Mohammedan finishing bottom of the league table last year. This year, they will want to show more mettle and a cup competition is the ideal place to do so. A win for them against a team riding high on confidence and the tide can turn fast in Mohammedan’s favour.
