Super Cup 2025-26 Semifinal 2: FC Goa vs Mumbai City FC Preview, team news, lineups & prediction

Both teams are one step away from reaching the final.

Mumbai City FC will take on defending champions and hosts FC Goa in the semi-final of the AIFF Super Cup on Thursday, December 4th at the JLN Stadium in Fatorda, Goa. Kick-off is scheduled at 20:00 hours IST.

Both teams topped their groups to find a spot in the penultimate stage of the competition. They won two games apiece and lost one in the group stage fixtures. The winner will face either East Bengal FC or Punjab FC in the final.

The Stakes:

FC Goa

Al Zawraa vs FC Goa: Patch defence, Hritik's heroics & other talking points from AFC Champions League Two

FC Goa come into the game having lost another match in the AFC Champions League 2, their fifth in a row which rules them out of moving into the knockout stages and knocks them out of the tournament. Despite some resilient performances, Manolo Marquez’s men have not been able to muster up any points for themselves on the continental stage.

Defending their Super Cup title would prove to be a major confidence boost for the team, as they are also playing in their state and will have the support of the majority of the crowd on Thursday. Marquez also has a point to prove after leaving the Indian National Team, where he had a forgettable stint.

Despite losing to NorthEast United FC in the opener, Goa did well to fight back and rack up wins against Jamshedpur FC and Inter Kashi to book a spot in the semi-finals of the AIFF Super Cup.

Mumbai City FC, on the other hand, are in search of their first shot at silverware for more than a year and a half. The Islanders made their way to the knockout stages on the basis of the H2H scoreline, as they had the same points as Kerala Blasters, who they had fortunately defeated 1-0 in a group match.

Petr Kratky’s men lost to Rajasthan United by a 0-1 scoreline but finished strong with a 4-1 victory over Sporting Delhi. Kratky’s men will be motivated by the opportunity to represent India on the continental stage through the ACL 2 playoff spot that winning the Super Cup guarantees.

Team News

Both Petr Kratky and Manolo Marquez will have their full squad strength at their disposal going into the crucial cup encounter.

Predicted Lineups

FC Goa (4-4-2): Hrithik Tiwari, Boris Singh Thangjam, Sandesh Jhingan, Pol Moreno, Akash Sangwan, Ayush Chhetri, Sahil Tavora, Brandon Fernandes, Dejan Drazic, Iker Guarrotxena, Borja Herrera

Mumbai City FC (4-2-3-1): Phurba Lachenpa, Valpuia, Bijay, Tiri, Akash Mishra, Tluanga, Puipuia, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jorge Ortiz, Vikram Pratap Singh, Jorge Pereyra Diaz

Players to watch out for

FC Goa – Iker Guarrotxena

Iker Guarrotxena played for the opposition side as recently as March 2024. When Real Murcia terminated his contract, he was signed up by Mumbai City FC for the remainer of the 2023-24 season. Despite being able to play only for a month, Guarrotxena was clearly one of Islanders’ most impactful players on the pitch.

As one of the most technically gifted players operating in the Indian circuit, Guarrotxena is a force to be reckoned with anywhere near the opposition half. He’ll lead the Gaurs from the front against a side and their tactics that he knows very well.

Mumbai City FC – Vikram Pratap Singh

Vikram Pratap Singh has been in sharp form of late, also featuring for the Senior National side. The 23-year-old winger from Chandigarh is gifted with devastating pace and can pose a major problem to FC Goa if he combines well with Chhangte and the foreign attackers.

Often attacking from the right wing, Vikram will be up against Akash Sangwan, who was ousted with ease by forwards in the ACL. Particularly in the match against Saudi heavyweights Al-Nassr, Sangwan made a number of mistakes that put Goa in a compromising position. Vikram will look to expose this chink in the Goan armour if Sangwan is not wary.
