10-man Calicut trap the Warriors to a 1-1 stalemate in the Super League Kerala

Kannur Warriors are still unbeaten away from home in Super League Kerala.

Calicut FC and Kannur Warriors agreed to share the spoils 1-1 in the Northern Derby of the Super League Kerala on the 29th of October at the EMS Corporation Stadium for the second matchday of the fourth round fixtures of the league.

Calicut broke the deadlock of the match with the services of Arshaf, who took a bullet shot into the back of the net after skillfully receiving the ball from Ajsal in the 28th minute. This advantage did not last long as Kannur levelled the score off Asier Gomes, who linked up well with Sardinero to provide his side the equaliser. The 42nd minute saw Asif Khan being sent off after receiving a second yellow following a deliberate handball, marking the first send-off of Super League Kerala 2025.

In the second half, though both sides initiated some attacks, the lack of decision-making cost them badly and at full time, both teams shared the spoils.

Goal, Red Card, Drama!

The first half saw Kannur Warriors trying to gain an early advantage by making some constant attacks, which forced Asif Khan to concede a foul in the edge of the box to book him under the referee’s books. Later, though, Kannur tried to attack to the best of their might, it was Calicut who found the breakthrough goal with the services of Arshaf.

In the 26th minute, the misunderstanding between the Kannur keeper Ubaid and the defender Nicolas led to a Calicut corner. Prashant deployed the ball into the middle of the box, and after a first touch from Ajsal, Arshaf took a bullet shot to open the scoring tally. In the 37th minute, Asier Gomes levelled the scores after excellently linking up with Sardinero.

Just ahead of the break, Asif Khan committed a deliberate handball offence during a Kannur counterattack and was sent off following a second yellow card. Later, when Calicut were one man down, Boasso aggressively attacked but somehow he was unable to find the back of the net.

A Disappointing Second Half

In the second half, both teams aggressively initiated their attacks, and they were successful in inflicting a good amount of pressure on their opponents. For Kannur, Asier Gomes attacked with intent, and after he was subbed off, Abdou Karim took his role. For Calicut, Prashant, Ajsal and Sachu initiated the offence. But to both sides’ dismay, they were lacking decision-making in the final third, and this meant that neither Calicut nor Kannur were able to find the winner.

At full time, 10-man Calicut agreed to a stalemate in the Northern Derby of the Super League Kerala. Kannur and Calicut, with one extra point in their bag, have not made any significant change in the points table. Kannur remain in the 1st position with 8 points, and Calicut on the 4th position with 5 points.
