India slide to 142nd place in FIFA World Rankings after disastrous Bangladesh loss

India are winless in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
The Indian football team has suffered a drop in their position in the latest FIFA World Rankings after their 1-0 loss to Bangladesh in the recent AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifier clash. The Blue Tigers are facing the repercussions of suffering a loss to a team that was ranked well below them before the clash.
Khalid Jamil’s side produced a pretty woeful effort to suffer the narrow loss to the Bengal Tigers, failing to score a goal or produce any sort of entertaining football. That also marked India’s second straight loss and stretched their winless record to three games, and that has impacted their position in the FIFA World Rankings to end the year 2025.
Loss against Bangladesh add fuel to fire

The latest rankings have seen India drop down all the way to the position of 142, falling six places from their recent position before the Bangladesh clash. The Blue Tigers suffered a deduction of 17.13 coefficient points, which resulted in them experiencing such a large drop in the ranking. This actually also records the joint-biggest drop for any national team in the current FIFA Rankings alongside El Salvador.
The Blue Tigers are currently not even among the top-25 AFC countries in the FIFA Rankings, with the likes of the Philippines (136) and Turkmenistan (137) overtaking them in the latest rankings. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have benefited in the FIFA rankings after defeating India as they have climbed up to the 180th position, a three-place boost.
Interestingly, Singapore, which actually qualified from the group involving India in the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers, are only ranked 151 after moving up four places in the latest FIFA rankings. India’s drop to the 142nd position in the latest FIFA Rankings marks their worst position in the rankings since September 2016, when they were in the 148th position during the tenure of Stephen Constantine.

2025 comes to and for India
With the Blue Tigers not having any more matches remaining in 2025, they are likely to finish the year in the 142nd position in the FIFA rankings. This marks a new low for what has already been a frustrating year for the Indian football team, who have only been able to win three of their 11 international matches in the year of 2025, playing under multiple different coaches.
On the other side of the FIFA World Rankings, Spain are set to finish the year 2025 in the no.1 spot after securing qualification into the 2026 FIFA World Cup in style. Argentina (second) and France (third) take up the other top-3 positions, with England positioned in fourth and Brazil moving into the fifth position after their recent positive results under Carlo Ancelotti.
