AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers: India stay sharp, Gangte's heroics and other talking points

India clinched their first win in the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The EKA Arena in Ahmedabad geared up to host the second qualifier game of the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign as India U17 locked horns against Chinese Taipei. After conceding an early goal, India U17 went on to score thrice to secure a thrilling victory.

India’s win tonight and Iran’s draw against Lebanon put India joint top. After two games, India are at the summit of Group D alongside Iran. The match ended in a 3-1 victory for India.

Let’s take a closer look at the India U17 player ratings from the clash against Chinese Taipei U17.

India U17 Player Ratings-

Rajrup Sarkar – 7.5/10

Apart from that first goal he conceded, where he hardly but anything to do, he had a fairly decent game against a strong Taipei team and made crucial blocks.

Shubham Poonia – 7/10

Poonia from the right wing ensured that Taipei wingers were quiet from the right flank. A solid defensive performance from Poonia saw India win the game.

Korou Meitei – 6.5/10

Korou gave up too easily and must have taken the early attack seriously as Taipei broke the deadlock in less than five minutes.

Lawmsangzuala – 7/10

Lawmsangzuala was a delight to watch as he showed no signs of backing down and did well to put constant pressure on the Chinese defence.

Aimaan Bin – 6.5/10

Aimaan’s defence was horrible, due to his laid-back attitude, India conceded an easy goal in the first five minutes.

Wangkhem Denny Singh – 7.5/10

Denny had a fairly decent game and was instrumental in building an attack from the flanks as India scored a lot of goals in the second half.

Diamond Singh – 7.5/10

Diamond also had a good game tonight and had his fair share of chances in the first half.

Dallalmuon Gangte – 9.5/10

The Indian captain Dallalmuon Gangte made no mistake in scoring that equaliser after a brilliant cross from Gunleiba. It was an audacious shot, and the Chinese keeper had no answers. He scored the second goal after the ball took a deflection from the post, and he even went on to score his hat-trick too.

Azlaan Shah – 9/10

Azlaan has been an electrifying presence in the flanks for India tonight. He came very close to scoring more than once and has been excellent tonight.

Heeranganba Seram – 7.5/10

Seram had some close chances in the first half but failed to convert them, and had a good game up front.

Gunleiba- 8.5/10

Gunleiba almost gave a brilliant assist before Seram headed that outwards. But he contributed his first assist after the captain scored from his cross.
