Just months after Lionel Messi and Uruguayan legend Luis Suarez visited India, the Uruguayan team are set to visit India to play Khalid Jamil’s men in the international friendly fixture.
This fixture will also mark the return of Diego Forlan to India. The 2010 Golden Ball winner, after donning the jerseys of Manchester United, Inter Milan and Villarreal, came to India during the final few days of his playing career to play for Mumbai City FC.

Diego Forlan’s last game in India saw him picking up a red card at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium in Kolkata in the first leg of the Indian Super League semi-finals between ATK and Mumbai City FC.
10 years later, Forlan will return to the City of Joy as the head coach of the Uruguay national team. India are set to lock horns with Uruguay at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on October 6th 2026.
VYBK, also referred to as the Salt Lake Stadium will also host the Brazil friendly fixture on October 3rd 2026 and this stadium has previously hosted some big names like Lionel Messi, Pele, Diego Maradona and Luis Suarez.
A tough test awaits India

The Blue Tigers will lock horns with Brazil and Panama in the other two games of the FIFA September-October Friendly window. Khalid’s men will kickstart their friendly window against Panama in Bengaluru on October 26th at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.
On 3rd October, India are set to face the Brazil national team in Kolkata before taking on Uruguay 72 hours later in the Mecca of Indian Football on 6th October 2026.
