Odisha FC made several official transfer announcements in the past week.

The coronavirus pandemic has made transfer negotiations quite tricky with a number of clubs facing financial difficulties. The current predicament requires the Indian football clubs to be shrewd with their transfers and chart out a coherent plan in order to recruit players that can fit straightaway in their plans.

Furthermore, a number of patterns have emerged in the market so far as clubs have operated differently in keeping with their respective situations. For instance, Odisha FC have been rampant in the market with the sheer volume of their signings representing their belligerent approach.

Without any further ado, let us take a look at some of the transfer business conducted by the clubs in the last week.

Star striker Roy Krishna has signed a one-year extension with ATK Mohun Bagan. The Fijian was instrumental in their title triumph last season and formed a fearsome partnership with David Williams in attack. He found the back of the net on 15 occasions and notched six assists, which encapsulates his all-round prowess. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the defending champions decided to extend his stay at the club and will be delighted that the striker has put to pen to paper.

Odisha FC

Isak Vanlalruatfela and Paul Ramfangzauva

Odisha FC have been incredibly active in the transfer market as they target a higher finish in the standings next season. They have adopted a transfer strategy that has been focused on roping in some of the most promising young talents in the country. Accordingly, they have completed the signature of youngsters Isak Vanlalruatfela and Paul Ramfangzauva from Aizawl FC.

19-year-old Isak was part of Bengaluru FC’s U-18 team before his move to Aizawl. The young lad has signed a four-year deal with the Bhubaneshwar-based club.

On the other hand, 21-year-old Paul turned up for the Aizawl FC’s U-18 team before gaining promotion to their senior side in the 2018-19 season. The teenager has signed a three-year deal at the ISL club. Club president Mr. Rohan Sharma was elated with his newest acquisitions and believes that the young duo can go on to become household names in Indian football.

Odisha FC have brought in Gerry Peyton as assistant coach of the team ahead of the 2019-20 season. During his playing career, the Irishman played for the likes of West Ham United, Everton, Fulham and Chelsea in the Premier League. The former Ireland custodian has also worked with Arsene Wenger for 15 years as a member of coaching staff at Arsenal and was the assistant manager at Japanese outfit Shimizu S-Pulse. The 64-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Juggernauts.

Thangboi Singto

The club also parted ways with former assistant coach Thangboi Singto. The 45-year-old had joined the club ahead of the sixth edition of ISL and also held the role of Head of Youth Development at the club.

Hyderabad FC

Joel Chianese

Khel Now excusively reported that Hyderabad FC have completed the signing of Australian winger Joel Chianese from A-League club Perth Glory FC. In his decade-long career, Chianese has played professional football in his homeland, New Zealand, and Malaysia. The 30-year-old bagged four goals and three assists across 19 matches in the league for Perth Glory in the 2019-20 season. Hyderabad have struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities on a consistent basis as their tally of 21 goals in their 18 matches last term would verify. Hence, the signing of the winger would be a welcome addition at the club.

Mumbai City FC

Ravi Kumar

Mumbai City announced the departure of goalkeeper Ravi Kumar this week. The 26-year-old spent two seasons at the club but could only make two appearances for the Islanders as he had to contend himself with a back-up role in the side.

He made his professional debut for Pailan Arrows before moving to Sporting Goa. The keeper has also previously spent time at Delhi Dynamos and NorthEast United in the ISL.

Indian Football Transfers: Lenny Rodrigues extended his stay with his hometown club FC Goa

Midfielder Lenny Rodrigues has signed a two-year extension with FC Goa. The deal will ensure he remains with the Gaurs till 2022. So far, Lenny Rodrigues has picked up two trophies at the club in as many seasons and also helped the club to a top-table finish last season. The 33-year-old will be hoping to play a similar key role in the midfield next term under Juan Ferrando.

Ferran Corominas

Ferran Corominas has been one of the best players in the ISL since he joined FC Goa in 2016 and has even picked up two Golden boot awards in his three-year stay in India so far. However, he is a free agent currently and there is a bit of uncertainty surrounding his future after he revealed to Goal that the latest offer on his table by FC Goa doesn’t provide a fair reflection of his contributions at the club.

The Spaniard has plundered a staggering 48 goals and 16 assists across 57 games in the league. His situation could open the door for other clubs to swoop in on him and it will be fascinating to observe how the move unfolds.

Romeo Fernandes

According to a report from The Times Of India, FC Goa will be looking to offer former fan-favourite Romeo Fernandes a chance to impress and potentially secure a contract with his hometown club. In the same report, it has been mentioned that head coach Juan Ferrando supposedly is looking at players who performed well in the first couple of years of the ISL, which means that Romeo will be a part of FC Goa’s pre-season plans and could make his stay permanent should he put in credible displays.

The 27-year-old was one of the star performers in his first few seasons at FC Goa and even guided them to the finals in 2015. It remains to be seen if he can replicate those performances going forward.

TRAU FC

Abdul Salam

I-League side TRAU FC have brought in former NEROCA FC and Real Kashmir FC youngster Abdul Salam ahead of the next season. The promising full-back appeared eight times for the Orange Army in 2018-19 season before joining the Snow Leopards. The club officially announced the move on their social media on Thursday.
