India vs Singapore: All-time head-to-head record

The Blue Tigers will take on Singapore in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.

The next few days will keep the Indian football fans on tenterhooks as the Indian team clashes with Singapore in the twin AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers. The first of the two consecutive matches will be played in Singapore, followed by a return leg in Goa.

Khalid Jamil has announced a 23-member squad for the away qualifying fixture on Thursday. India have the talisman Sunil Chhetri back in the squad, but other key players like Apuia and Abhishek Singh Tekcham are missing out. However, these limitations would be no excuse for Jamil, who is expecting nothing but three points from his men.

The Blue Tigers have faced the Lions on several occasions in the past. India and Singapore have shared the international stage multiple times, resulting in thrilling encounters. The two teams are again set to face off in what will be a decisive fixture, as their immediate future depends on the result of it.

India’s Head-to-head record against Singapore

India and Singapore have locked horns thirteen times in the past. The Lions have had an upper hand in this duel. Singapore have won seven out of those thirteen matches between the two. The Blue Tigers had the last laugh on only four occasions. The remaining two encounters ended in a stalemate.

These two sides last faced each other in 2022. It was a friendly affair that saw an intense face-off with both teams pushing their limits to register a victory. Ikhsan Fandi opened the scoring for Singapore in the 37th minute, giving a valuable lead to his team. However, the elation was short-lived as Ashique Kuruniyan went on to equalize just six minutes later.

This time, a draw will not be the result that will revive India’s AFC Asian Cup qualifying campaign. With only table toppers qualifying for the main tournament, the Blue Tigers have to collect maximum points that they can in the remaining four fixtures to claim a ticket to Saudi Arabia.
