Noah Sadaoui and Kwame Peprah gave the Islanders’ reserve squad nightmares.
Kerala Blasters FC mauled Mumbai City FC 8-0 in the Durand Cup 2024 on Thursday at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. Debutant Moroccan ace Noah Sadaoui helped his side rip the Islanders to shreds with a hattrick.
Although the Tuskers fielded a strong eleven with two of their star transfers Noah Sadaoui and Som Kumar starting, Mumbai City couldn’t even budge them a bit. The former Gaurs winger had initially set up a goal that was deemed offside but then opened the scoring at the half-hour mark with a near-post volley.
Kwame Peprah’s quickfire brace then put the Blasters up by 3-0 before the break. The striker’s second goal was assisted by Sadaoui who had shifted to the right wing this time.
After terrorizing the Mumbai City backline in the first half, the rapid winger got right back to scoring, this time with a header. Peprah scored next to complete his hattrick and make it 5-0 for the Tuskers.
Sadaoui completed his hattrick with another crisp right-footed finish, struck low and hard in the 75th minute. The inexperienced Islanders’ squad were pegged back so deep that they could only dream of attacking at this point.
Another bright spot was Ishan Pandita getting his first goals for the club after a lackluster debut season. The striker hammered the final nails on Mumbai City’s coffin with a brace as the Tuskers showed promise of a frightening linkup.
19-year-old prodigy Som Kumar kept his first clean sheet for his new side after joining from the Slovenian side NK Olimpija Ljubljana’s U-19 side. Kerala Blasters FC went top of their group with three points, a clean sheet, and an unassailable eight-goal lead with their thumping victory.
