The Blues are targeting the top spot in the standings, whereas the Marina Machans are aiming for a playoffs place. Ahead of the game, Chennaiyin head coach Owen Coyle interacted with the media in the pre-match press conference.

"When I took over we were very far from the playoffs race. We had scored four goals in six games, so we had to find the way to score goals. We had to find a way not just to draw games, but to win games as well. We now have some big games coming up, but our focus is on the game against BFC,” he added.

The Englishman also went on to praise Bengaluru as he said, “Bengaluru FC are a very good team, to be honest. They are the champions for a reason, but we are also two-time champions along with ATK. They have a good coach, they have a good team and they’ve spent money as well. So, good luck to them, but we’re also a good side with good players. We are ready for the game and we are ready to try and win the game.”

Owen Coyle was quizzed regarding the mantra which Chennaiyin followed after he took over. “Any coach who inherits a squad wants a pre-season, but it was not possible. So, the first thing I did was to ask the capabilities of the squad," the Chennaiyin FC boss revealed.

"Prior to the game against Jamshedpur I found out they were very talented. I know the foreign players get all the praise, but my Indian players have been so enjoyable to watch. They have great ability and great talent. The real desire, the hunger the players have shown has been immense,” Owen Coyle concluded.
