The forward has been operated for a knee injury.
Indian national team forward, Jeje Lalpekhlua who missed the King's up and Chennaiyin FC's AFC Cup action, had surgery on Thursday. The 28-year-old marksman suffered from a knee injury and did not feature in any of Chennaiyin's matches after the end of the last season.
Lalpekhlua had an average Indian Super League (ISL) season for the Marina Machans, where he featured in most of the matches but managed to find the net only once. The "Mizo Sniper" also scored only once in Chennaiyin's route to the final in the Super Cup, where they lost out against FC Goa.
The striker's injury also kept him out from national team action as newly appointed head coach Igor Stimac had to make his team for the King's Cup without the prolific goalscorer.
On Thursday, The 28-year-old posted a picture on Twitter and along with it he wrote, " As you may be seeing I have been missing from the Indian National team and Chennaiyin FC due to my injury, suffered earlier in the season. Today (Thursday) I have successfully undergone surgery and I am already looking forward to getting back on the field really soon. Thank you all those who have shown their support throughout this period."

Jeje Lalpekhlua post update after surgery
[KH_RELATED_NEWS title="Related News"][/KH_RELATED_NEWS]Igor Stimac will once again miss his services in the Intercontinental Cup in July, where the Blue Tigers will face teams like Syria, Korea DPR and Tajikistan. Jeje will always be a big miss for the national team, considering his telepathic communication with Sunil Chhetri and his terrific goalscoring record in the Blue jersey. The forward has scored 23 times for the Blue Tigers in 56 appearances, with his last goal coming against Thailand in the 1-4 demolition in the AFC Cup.
Lalpekhlua will look to pace his return to the pitch as we head into the upcoming season. The "Mizo Sniper" will look to find some form in the domestic circuit as his presence will be vital for Stimac and India in the World Cup Qualifiers.
