The tactician was in a reflective mood after a heavy defeat in the last game of the season.
Jamshedpur FC ended their Indian Super League campaign on a sad note, after losing by five goals to league toppers, FC Goa. Antonio Iriondo cut a gloomy figure in his post-match interaction with the media. There was a time when the Men Of Steel were leading the league table, such was the early impact the tactician had with a re-built squad and a lot of new faces. However, the season only went downhill and culminated with the team having no victories in their last five matches. [KH_ADWORDS type="4" align="center"][/KH_ADWORDS] Upon being asked about the game and where his team faltered in the season, the tactician responded by saying, “For the first 50-60 minutes, we played very well as a team, but after the second goal there was a clear penalty which was not given. The main difference was that they had very good individual players and they showed it every time they had a chance.” “Rest of the season has been marred by injuries, someone has to take responsibility for that and the easy way is to point fingers at the staff and coaches. But, now I have a very good feeling for Jamshedpur, the reflection has to be deeper and we must think carefully on what has been the problem,” added the Spaniard. Iriondo was also asked about Karan Amin and if he fits well within the team’s style of play and philosophy, to which he replied, “We have been trying different full-backs in the season on both sides. At some point we felt that Karan was not as physically good as other players. But, the thing is he understands the game very well, so we gave him a chance. He was not very different to other full-backs honestly.” “The thing is, we did not have a very deep squad, so if we tried to recover one side, the other side had a problem. We had to play a forward as a full-back, but the situation was like this,” Antonio Iriondo concluded. So, we have been trying to fix some positions that we were struggling (with). But, now the coach is not working, so you have to change the coach. I think if you just stop there, maybe you’re going to have the same problems in the future. They are not going to fix everything.”Latest News
