Mumbai City Vs FC Goa Ratings: Lenny brightest spark in special win

With the win the Gaurs went to the top of the table with eight points.

Mumbai City were outsmarted by FC Goa, as the latter put four past the Islanders, who increased their winless streak to three games on Thursday night. The Mumbai Football Arena no longer stands as a fortress and this is just terrifyingly sad news for Jorge Costa and Mumbai City FC. In their last two matches, Odisha FC and FC Goa have successfully scored four against a defensive side, whose highlight of the gameplay used to be in their back four last season. But, with no cover for the young, inexperienced defence, Mumbai City were defeated by strongly placed title hopefuls FC Goa, which puts them in fifth position in the table. Here are the ratings of the Indian players who were part of the game on Thursday night.

Mumbai City FC

Amrinder Singh- 5.0

Amrinder was helpless in goal and so was the backline in front of him. The FC Goa attack proved to be far superior against Mumbai City, especially in the absence of a stable central defensive midfielder. Amrinder was beaten by technical goals that were far too difficult to save, but he was not the only one to blame.

Souvik Chakrabarti- 6.0

Souvik's return to the side was an extremely necessary one, as he was able to keep the likes of Mandar and Brandon in check. But, it is difficult to gauge his performance, as two of the goals came from the side he was defending. Souvik also got on to the ball to score a goal in a losing effort. Overall, he has made great strides in developing his game. Souvik later received a yellow card for an unnecessary foul on Brandon Fernandes.

Sarthak Golui- 6.0

Golui was troubled by FC Goa's relentless attacks, but the youngster put in a decent performance by converting a corner into a goal. Sarthak has a lot to learn in his new role, but looks quite comfortable as a central defender.

Subhashish Bose- 5.0

Bose did well after an injury scare in the previous game, but was beaten by Jackichand and Seriton on occasion. The once impregnable left flank of Mumbai, now seems easy to beat, as Bose's level of play still hasn't kicked into top gear. If he does not recover soon, Vignesh might be waiting in the wings to replace him.

Pratik Chowdhary- 4.5

Pratik was outplayed and sometimes outnumbered, as the Gaurs swamped around him, rendering his influence negligible. Pratik is full of potential, but needs help from his teammates to realize it and then may be, he can become the wall in defense for the Islanders.

Raynier Fernandes- 7.5

Raynier was fearless in tackling, pinpoint in passing and insightful in attack. Fernandes disrupted the FC Goa midfield, simultaneously providing incisive balls to his teammates as well as pressing the Gaurs' backline into submission. Raynier is undoubtedly one of the players who are the future of Indian football and is approaching his peak level.

Bipin Singh- 6.0

Bipin came in on the back of a left flank goal in the previous game and showed amazing quality in the match. His first touch was exquisite and he did not waver on the night. He was also fully equipped to play with either feet and fit perfectly into Costa's system. He might be the left winger Mumbai have been in dire need of since Arnold Issoko left the side.

Substitutions

Surchandra Singh- 5.0

Replaced Bipin Singh but was not allowed to do much on the ball. Off the ball running by him, showed a lot of promise and enterprise.

Pranjal Bhumij- N/A

Replaced Paulo Machado when the veteran midfielder was showing signs of fatigue and played as a #10 when Raynier Fernandes was substituted out soon after.

Bidyanandan Singh- N/A

Came in too late to affect the game significantly.

FC Goa

Mohammad Nawaz- 5.5

Nawaz has a lot to learn and will not be able to rely only on his reflexes, if he wishes to continue in between the sticks. He is one of the most talented young goalkeepers in the country, but his lack of physicality might hinder his growth in the long run.

Seriton Fernandes- 6.0

Seriton was beaten constantly by either Diego or Bipin and found it difficult to deal with the constant change on the wings. But, in the forward runs he turned out to be effective.

Seriton's assist to Corominas on the overlap with Jackichand Singh was the highlight in his performance as an attacking full-back.

Mandar Rao Desai- 8.0

A true leader and captain, Mandar did a phenomenal job in both defense and attack. He played a seamless brand of football, with a brilliant overlapping display alongside Brandon Fernandes.

Lenny Rodrigues- 8.5

The side that won the game was the one with a stable central defensive midfielder. Lenny just exemplified this statement with a breathtaking display. The only player who was able to harrow him was Raynier, but nobody else was able to pressure him much. Lenny might soon be knocking on the national team's doors with such exquisite performances.

Brandon Fernandes- 6.0

Brandon was not close to his best. The Goan midfielder generally commands more respect in the middle of the park and makes life difficult for the opposition. But, it was not his night against Mumbai City. He was shown a yellow card for his antiques and was not appreciated by the home fans for his brash attitude on the field.

Jackichand Singh- 6.5

Jackichand Singh is a gem that should not be wasted. FC Goa head coach Sergio Lobera knows exactly how to use him and Jacki has been delivering ever since he switched over to the Gaurs. He did fairly well against Mumbai City and was involved in two goals.
