The Red and Gold have sped up their activity in the transfer window with deadline day coming up.
With the transfer deadline day coming closer, SC East Bengal have sped up their business and signed striker Jeje Lalpekhlua.
"Every footballer in India wants to play for SC East Bengal one day," he quoted as per the club's official statement. "It is such a big institution. I am thrilled to join SC East Bengal in its first year of taking part in the ISL. I cannot wait to don the Red and Gold colours and give my best every time I take the field."
The "Mizo Sniper" was previously part of two-time ISL champions Chennaiyin FC. He was part of the Marina Machans right since the inception of the league and was nothing short of a club legend at the Marina Arena. In his six years at the club, Jeje Lalpekhlua made 69 appearances, recorded 23 goals and seven assists for them. However, he missed the entirety of the 2019-20 season due to his injury and would be raring to step back onto the field again.
At SC East Bengal, Jeje Lalpekhlua will acquire an important first-team role. With the new signings the club have made in consultations with new head coach Robbie Fowler, fans will be holding high hopes in their debut campaign in the top tier.
The Red and Gold have already brought in promising foreigners including Scott Neville (on loan from Brisbane Roar), Danny Fox, Aaron Amadi-Holloway and Anthony Pilkington. In addition, East Bengal are also set to sign former Hamburger SV midfielder Matti Steinman. Apart from that, they have also brought in former ISL and I-League winning goalkeeper Debjit Majumder. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the squad shapes up at the end of the transfer window.
