Ashique Kuruniyan joins ATK Mohun Bagan from Bengaluru FC

The versatile winger has penned a five-year contract with the Mariners.
ATK Mohun Bagan have announced the signature of Ashique Kuruniyan this afternoon. The former Bengaluru FC left-winger has signed a five-year contract with the Mariners. After signing for the club, Kuruniyan also set his foot in the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club tent.
What the player said on joining ATK Mohun Bagan?
After joining the club, Ashique Kuruniyan asserted, “I have the experience of playing at the junior level in Europe. The infrastructure in Kolkata is also brilliant. It is a dream for any footballer to ply his trade in Kolkata. ATK Mohun Bagan is the best football club in India. The club have a successful coach in Juan Ferrando to tutor the players.”
A few days back, Kuruniyan played in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers in the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan. The 25-year-old added, “A few days back, while playing for my country in Kolkata, I witnessed the emotions and interest of the fans. There were many Green & Maroon flags along with the Tri-colour flags.”
The player opined on his ambition by saying, “My target is to make millions of ATK Mohun Bagan supporters happy. Along with that, I want to make sure the team wins the AFC Cup, Durand Cup and the Indian Super League. I am eagerly waiting to don the Green & Maroon colours and play for the club.”

About the Player
Hailing from Malappuram, Kuruniyan has played 24 matches for the Indian national team and scored once. In the recently concluded AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, he bossed the field against Afghanistan. Both the goals scored by Sunil Chhetri and Sahal Abdul Samad owe their contribution to the left-winger.
Apart from playing as a left-winger, Kuruniyan can also operate as a left-back or a left-wing-back. In Europe, he played for Villareal C. He has played for FC Pune City and Bengaluru FC in the ISL. The 25-year-old has appeared 65 times in the ISL and scored five goals and provided as many assists.
ATK Mohun Bagan’s preparations for ISL 2022/23
ATK Mohun Bagan recently parted ways with Roy Krishna. Also, David Williams has moved to Mumbai City. Centre-back Tiri suffered a long-term injury during the AFC Cup campaign. The Mariners will be signing two more foreigners in order to fulfill the overseas demands.
They have already signed Asish Rai from ISL Trophy winners Hyderabad FC. Notably, most of the squad is intact. ATK Mohun Bagan will be desperate to win the respective accolades they have missed in the past two seasons.
