The full-back made five appearances in the ISL last season.
Chennaiyin FC have signed local boy Ajith Kumar ahead of the upcoming season. The Chennai-born defender will be joining his home side following a two-year stint at Bengaluru FC.Welcoming Ajith into the club, Chennaiyin FC co-owner Vita Dani said: “We always love it when we bring a performing Chennai player back to this city and that's exactly what Ajith Kumar is.”The 25-year-old, who usually plays in the left-back position, featured in 13 matches in the last two Indian Super League seasons for Bengaluru FC. He also played in four AFC Cup as well as five Durand Cup matches for them.
Ajith is returning to the city where he began his professional career. In 2018, he made his professional debut with Chennai City FC and went on to play a crucial role in the club’s maiden I-League title-winning campaign, appearing in all 20 league games.“Feels good to come back to Chennai, but this time as a Chennaiyin FC player. I can't wait to play in front of the home fans,” Ajith expressed his excitement on returning to home city.During his two-year stint with Chennai City, Ajith made 42 appearances across competitions, including Super Cup and AFC Cup.
Chennaiyin FC's preparations for 2022/23 season
The Marina Machans have signed Thomas Brdaric as their new head coach. The team is all set to feature in the Durand Cup as well. Unlike most other ISL clubs, Chennaiyin FC will be fielding their first team in the competition. The squad arrived in Kolkata a few days back and is expected to play a few friendlies prior to the commencement of the Durand Cup. The club has made amends in the foreign contingent and has replaced most of their overseas players.
Apart from Rafael Crivellaro, all their foreigners are new to India. Kwame Karikari, Fallou Diagne, Vafa Hakhamaneshi, Petar Sliskovic and Julius Duker are the names. Their Indian brigade is also mesmerising. Chennaiyin FC got hold of Vincy Barretto from Kerala Blasters. Even players like Mohammed Rafique, Sajal Bag, Sourav Das, Jiteshwor Singh and Monotosh Chakladar have joined the camp. A major setback however, may be that of Vishal Kaith's move to ATK Mohun Bagan.
