The Red & Golds will take the pitch on the opening day.
The team jerseys for ISL Season 9 (2022-23) of East Bengal FC were unveiled yesterday at Rajdanga Naba Uday Sangha, a local Durga Puja ground in the presence of eminent dignitaries, marquee East Bengal players, select players of the East Bengal ISL team and its head coach.
The Home, Away and the Third jerseys were presented by VP Suhair, Cleiton Silva & Souvik Chakrabarti.
Given that East Bengal FC has a very strong emotional connect with the people of Bengal, the unveiling of the team’s ISL jerseys amidst Bengal’s biggest cultural festival - Durga Puja was a step to reach out to the football lovers in a celebratory environment. With UNESCO attributing Durga Puja as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, this year the celebrations are even bigger and hence an apt platform to highlight the distinct themes and stories of behind making of each of the new Jerseys.
The veteran footballers of the club wearing their own jerseys from their glorious past handed over the club’s flag in a symbolic gesture of passing on their legacy to the current players, as each of the Jerseys were unveiled along with the story behind the threads.
Jersey Themes 0f 2022:
The Home kit is a re-creation of the 1996 jersey when Emami was the principal sponsor of the East Bengal Club and the team experienced a glorious tenure. This re-creation of that yesteryear jersey design aims to infuse the energy of that winning streak in the team with Emami Group now becoming the primary investor of the Club.
The Away kit is a symbolic gesture of respect and acknowledgment to all the stars and trophies won by the club in its centenarian legacy. The clean star-spangled white jersey will ensure the club stands out strongly while playing away games.
The Third kit represents what sets the team apart. The passion & fire that burns within to achieve the best and the hand that nurtures this fire creates a distinct identity of the club.
The blue and white jersey with the self-design of the “Mashaal” (“hand with the torch”) symbol in its self-design print stands apart in its look and feel.
The coach and technical Jersey was unveiled by actor, Parambrata Chatterjee and team head coach, Stephen Constantine.
The occasion was also graced by Mr Javed Ahmed Khan, Hon’ble Minister for Disaster Management, Government Of West Bengal, Mr Susanta Ghosh, Chairman, Borough XIII, Legacy Legends Players, Manoranjan Bhattacharjee, Bhaskar Ganguly & Mihir Bose, actors, Mr Neel Bhattacharya & Ms Trina Saha, Mr Sandeep Agrawal and Debabrata Sarkar- Directors, Emami East Bengal, Dr. Shantiranjan Dasgupta- member East Bengal Club, and Ms Namrata Parekh, CEO, Emami East Bengal along with Olympians, Ms Poulami Ghatak & Ms Dola Dola Banerjee and Padmasree, Ms Bula Chowdhury.
Following the unveiling of the season kit, the dignitaries present along with the East Bengal FC players and representatives visited the uniquely decorated pandal to take the blessings of Maa Durga.
The team will play their first game of ISL 2022-23 as East Bengal FC in their Away Kits on 7th October, 2022 in Kochi and in their Home Kits on 12th October, 2022 in Kolkata. The tickets for the season will be launched over the next few days.
