Goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh signs for FC Goa on two-year deal
The 24-year-old had left Odisha FC after three seasons at the club.
Former Odisha FC goalkeeper Arshdeep Singh has put pen to paper for FC Goa, Khel Now can confirm. The 24-year-old custodian has departed the Juggernauts after three seasons at the club. Earlier, Odisha FC had announced his departure on May 31.
A source close to the development informed Khel Now, “Arshdeep Singh has penned a two-year deal at FC Goa. The club will announce the signature either this week or next week.”
With the signing of Arshdeep Singh, Dheeraj Singh faces competition under the sticks. He has to now prove himself after a mediocre ISL 2021/22 season. The 24-year-old’s arrival could also mean Naveen Kumar’s time at the club could draw to an end, with Arshdeep and Dheeraj likely to compete for the goalkeeper’s position.
About the player
Arshdeep Singh played eight matches last season for Odisha FC in the Indian Super League. He performed pretty well and attracted FC Goa’s attention. In his career, Arshdeep has played for Minerva Punjab and Odisha FC. The 24-year-old goalkeeper hails from the United Punjab academy. He is the first goalkeeper who has signed for FC Goa this season and probably will be the only one to sign.
He made his Odisha FC debut in the 2019-20 ISL season and made nine appearances for the club. However, his performances made him Odisha’s No.1, and Arshdeep played 16 games in the following season before injury cut short his campaign. Overall, he’s played 33 matches for Odisha FC and has made 116 saves averaging 3.5 saves per match. His save percentage is also as high as 65.53%.
FC Goa’s preparations for ISL 2022/23
In April, FC Goa roped in Carlos Pena as their head coach. For Pena, who was a former defensive stalwart for the club, this will be a first major senior team coaching experience. The Gaurs have already started signing foreigners. Already Alvaro Vazquez and Iker Guarrotxena have been added to the contingent. Marc Valiente, the Spanish centre-back has joined the club as well.
Edu Bedia meanwhile, has signed an extension at the club making him the longest-serving foreigner at FC Goa. Indian players like Princeton Rebello and Seriton Fernandes have also extended their stay at the club. Defender Ivan Gonzalez has meanwhile left the club.
Also, other foreigners weren’t extended at the club. FC Goa will be signing two more foreigners, including an Asian defender. Carlos Pena will be hopeful his contingent work well to make it to the playoffs and grab the ISL silverware this season.
