NorthEast United complete signing of Danish international Michael Jakobsen
The 36-year-old last played in the A-League for Adelaide United.
Indian Super League (ISL) side NorthEast United FC have completed the signing of Danish international Michael Jakobsen. The 36-year-old joins the Highlanders ahead of the 2022-23 season.
“NorthEast United have completed all the formalities for the signing of Danish defender Michael Jakobsen. He is expected to join the team in Guwahati very soon,” a source close to developments informed Khel Now.
About the player
Jakobsen began his career with the Dutch side PSV where he came up through the ranks and represented the main team. He then left PSV and returned to his homeland to sign for Aalborg BK where he spent five years.

The defender represented the reds in 169 matches and scored 18 goals for them, including one against former Premier League champions Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League (UCL). His goal against the Red Devils earned him a lot of limelight.
In the summer of 2010, Jakobsen was loaned out to La Liga side UD Almeria. He made over 50 appearances for the Spanish outfit including 16 in the La Liga. The former Danish international continued his stay with La Union even after their relegation to La Liga 2.
In 2012, Jacobsen moved back to Denmark and signed for FC Copenhagen. However, his stay at the club was only limited to 11 games. He was also loaned out to another Danish side FC Nordsjælland where he played 19 games. The following year he signed for another Danish top-flight club, Esbjerg fB.
After making over 50 plus appearances for Esbjerg, Jacobsen moved to Norwegian club Lillestrøm SK in early 2016 on a short-term loan. After more than a decade in Europe, Jacobsen moved to Asia and signed for City Football Group (CFG) owned Melbourne City FC in 2016.

He played 43 games for the club and was even appointed as the captain in 2017. In 2018, the 36-year-old signed a two-year deal with another A-League outfit Adelaide United and later renewed it until 2022. He made 94 appearances and scored once for the club from down under.
Jakobsen also has made six appearances for Denmark national team. He has played across most age groups of the national team and was also named the Denmark U-17 player of the year in 2002. Jakobsen’s leadership and experience will surely be very beneficial for NorthEast United FC.
