ISL 2022-23: 10 best signings of this summer transfer window

The forthcoming Indian Super League (ISL 2022-23) season will be the ninth edition of India's premier football league. The league kicks-off on October 7, and will run till March 2023. A lot of unexpected transfers happened so far in the 2022 summer window. Here we take a look at the top 10 transfers of the summer ahead of the ISL 2022-23 season.
10. Asish Rai - Hyderabad FC to ATK Mohun Bagan
Asish Rai joined Hyderabad’s first team in the 2019-20 season from FC Pune City. The defender joined ISL side ATK Mohun Bagan in 2022. Last season's ISL champion Asish made his debut for ATK Mohun Bagan in the AFC Cup knockouts. He is expected to start regularly for ATK in the upcoming ISL season.
9. Javi Hernandez - Odisha FC to Bengaluru FC
Spanish midfielder Javi Hernandez made his ISL debut with the three-time champions Atlético de Kolkata in 2019. He then signed a one-year contract with the newly formed ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020. In 2021 he moved to Odisha FC on a one-year contract. The attacking midfielder scored in OFC's first match of the season against Bengaluru FC (3–1 home victory). In June 2022, he signed for BFC on a two-year contract.
8. Ivan Gonzalez - FC Goa to East Bengal FC
The Spanish defender joined FC Goa in 2020. was part of FC Goa when they clinched their first-ever Durand Cup title. He penned a deal with SC East Bengal on a two-year deal. Ivan Gonzalez made his debut for East Bengal in the Durand Cup in the match against Rajasthan United.
7. Sandesh Jhingan - ATK Mohun Bagan to Bengaluru FC
Indian international Sandesh Jhingan signed a one-year contract with Bengaluru FC, ending his two-year association with ATK Mohun Bagan. The defender, who played for the Kerala Blasters during his emerging days, was one of the most decorated players for the three-time runner-ups. He was named the Emerging Player of the League in the first ISL season (2014).
6. Greg Stewart - Jamshedpur FC to Mumbai City FC
Scottish midfielder Greg Stewart joined Mumbai City FC on a two-year deal after a one-year stint with ISL 2021-22 Shield winners Jamshedpur FC. In his debut season in India, Stewart scored 10 goals including a hat-trick, and was named the Hero of the League for 2021–22. He made his debut for Mumbai City in a Durand Cup match against the Indian Navy.
5. Ashique Kuruniyan - Bengaluru FC to ATK Mohun Bagan
Indian international Ashique Kuruniyan was an integral part of Bengaluru FC. He ended his three-year stint with them and moved to ATK Mohun Bagan. He made his debut for the club in July in the AFC Cup knockouts.
4. Prabir Das - ATK Mohun Bagan to Bengaluru FC
Prabir Das joined the three-time Indian Super League champions Atletico de Kolkata in 2016. The former ISL champion has now joined Bengaluru FC for the upcoming 2022-23 season. His whipped crosses will be a delight for both Roy Krishna and Indian captain Sunil Chhetri.
3. Jorge Pereyra Diaz - Kerala Blasters FC to Mumbai City FC
Soon after the exit of Igor Angulo, Mumbai City FC found a perfect replacement by signing Jorge Pereyra Diaz from last season’s runners-up Kerala Blasters FC. The Argentine had a successful stint with KBFC, scoring eight goals in 21 matches.
2. Roy Krishna - ATK Mohun Bagan FC to Bengaluru FC
Fijian footballer Roy Krishna was introduced to the ISL by Atletico de Kolkata in 2019. He was also included in the newly formed ATK Mohun Bagan. He scored 15 and 21 goals during two seasons for ATK and ATK Mohun Bagan respectively. Krishna made his debut for Bengaluru FC recently, scoring a goal in the match against Jamshedpur FC in the Durand Cup.
1. Alvaro Vazquez - Kerala Blasters FC to FC Goa
The transfer of Spanish striker Álvaro Vázquez was one of the most shocking moves in the ISL 2022-23 transfer window. Vazquez made his ISL debut with current runners-up Kerala Blasters FC. He scored eight goals in 21 appearances for KBFC last season. Vazquez also played the final against Hyderabad FC. He left the Yellow Submarine in May to join FC Goa.
