Jamshedpur FC are looking to strengthen their forward line with Samir’s signing.
When every other Indian Super League (ISL) club were making statement signings and were super active in the ongoing transfer window, Jamshedpur FC remained out of the news. However, to the fans’ delight, the club has been working on transfers and strengthening the squad quietly.
Jamshedpur FC have signed Samir Murmu on a free transfer from his previous club Army Red.
As reported by Khel Now earlier, the club wanted to sort out the future of Khalid Jamil first before moving on to the player signings. The upcoming weeks are going to be the busiest for Jamshedpur FC fans as there is a plethora of new signings in the queue.
New local signing
Jamshedpur FC have added another local youngster to their roster who has caught the eyes after a scintillating stint with his former club Army Red. Samir, who hails from Beko Panchayat in Jamshedpur, joins the club on a free transfer.
Samir is a versatile player and can play anywhere in the forward line. The 22-year-old forward went on to score 10 goals in the 2023-24 Santosh Trophy. Eventually, he was named the player of the tournament and got a call-up for the India U-23 squad as well.
“The doors of Jamshedpur FC are open to local talent. I will try to give all the boys a chance to play for the club. Anyone in the state who knows any local football talent can approach me with the name and details,” head coach Khalid Jamil told India Times highlighting the importance of enrolling more players from the state.
Being the first player from the Kolhan region outside of Jamshedpur, Samir Murmu expressed his delight in joining Jamshedpur FC. He said, “I’m immensely proud to represent my hometown and the Kolhan region in the ISL. This is the biggest opportunity of my life, and I’m determined to give it my all to secure my place in the team.
“I’m committed to working tirelessly in training to prove myself to the coach and the people of Jamshedpur. I’d also like to request the entire Jamshedpur fan base to continue supporting us – we’re eager to make you proud!”
Head coach Khalid Jamil shared his enthusiasm about signing the local lad. He said, “Samir is an exciting young talent from our local community, bringing a unique combination of speed and versatility to the pitch. As a local player, he embodies our vision to nurture and showcase homegrown talent.
“With his ability to play across multiple positions – winger, attacking midfield, and striker – Samir offers flexibility and depth to our squad. His strong work ethic and dedication make him an excellent addition to our team.”
The Adivasi player started his football career at the Football Feeder Center run by Tata Steel Rural Development. Khalid Jamil pushed to get him into the team ever since his impressive trial at the Flatlets in April this year. Murmu has emerged as a role model for the villagers and aspiring Adivasi footballers. This will also help ISL gain popularity in such areas.
With the team set to play in the Durand Cup, head coach Khalid Jamil is looking to add more quality to his squad and build a competitive team before the tournament. Samir Murmu will don jersey number 34 and has joined the Men of Steel in training.
