Mohun Bagan's predicted lineup for ISL 2024-25
Mohun Bagan will look to defend their ISL Shield.
Defending Indian Super League (ISL) Shield winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant have left no stone unturned to make one of the costliest and strongest sides in the Indian top division once again.
The side will be playing in the AFC Champions League Two this time, along with a mission to win the top league in India. With aims so high, the side has welcomed Jose Francisco Molina as their new head coach and made several improvements to their already star-studded side.
Mohun Bagan will kick off their league campaign in the ISL 2024-25 against last-time trophy winners Mumbai City FC at the iconic Vivekananda Yuva Bharati Krirangan on September, 13. Before their kick-off let’s have a look at the predicted line-up of Mohun Bagan this season.
Mohun Bagan’s Lineup (Formation: 3-4-1-2)
GK: Vishal Kaith
The 28-year-old is like an eagle protecting the goalposts. He has been a savior for the Green and Maroon defense. He is a pro in everything, be it the one-on-one situations or saving the penalties.
Kaith’s ball distribution and reflexes are a huge plus for the team. He was the key performer in Mohun Bagan’s journey to the finals in the recently concluded Durand Cup 2024. His heroics saved Mohun Bagan in last season’s ISL too.
Centre-back: Tom Aldred
The new arrival from Brisbane Roar has already shown some glimpses of his brilliance in the Durand Cup. The Scottish defender has been a consistent performer in the A-League and English lower-division football in the past. The Mariners will count on his experience to maintain a solid defense.
Centre-back: Alberto Rodriguez
With ace defender Anwar Ali joining rivals, Mohun Bagan are expected to have two foreigners to start at the back. Rodriguez has already been fielded by Molina in the Durand Cup, and Mohun Bagan will expect a more consistent performance from him in the league.
The 31-year-old Spaniard comes from the Indonesian side Persib and has prior experience in the Spanish second-tier and the coveted Copa del Rey.
Centre-back: Subhashis Bose
The team India left-back is the most high-profile Indian defender in the Mariners team. He will continue to anchor Mohun Bagan’s boat in search of glory again.
Bose is one of the most experienced defenders in India and has played in over 100 games for the Mariners. Besides his superior defensive abilities, he can also contribute to some goals.
Right-Midfield: Manvir Singh
The No. 11 usually fits in as a striker, but for Molina’s side, he is expected to perform the duties of a wing-back from the right. He is equally efficient in managing from the right. His pace and ability to penetrate the opponent’s box is a huge plus.
Manvir has been a constant goal contributor for Mohun Bagan, be it goals or assists, Manvir Singh can do it all.
Central-Midfield: Apuia
The young midfielder is another big-money buy from Mumbai City FC. He has been a constant dominator of the midfield for Mumbai City FC and the Indian national football team since 2021.
Apuia can move in the entire midfield and contribute in both attack and defense. He has already been tested by his new Kolkata club in a few opportunities at the Durand Cup.
Central-Midfield: Anirudh Thapa
The 26-year-old has been Mohun Bagan’s pivotal midfielder. Besides performing his midfield duties, he is also a good defensive midfielder. He is expected to stay back while Apuia can move front to cater to the forwards.
Left-Midfield: Liston Colaco
One of the most skillful Indian players, Colaco shall operate from the left in Molina’s plans. Besides being an effective dribbler with good pace, Liston also has an eye for the goal, making the combination lethal.
Liston was one of the best performers for Mohun Bagan in Durand Cup 2024-25. His contribution to the ISL last season is even more commendable. He will be expected to make a few runs inside the other team’s box too.
Attacking-Midfielder: Sahal Abdul Samad
The 27-year-old has been Mohun Bagan’s pivot since last season. He is an ardent playmaker, contributing good passes to the strikers. Samad staying consistent and available will be a headache for other teams.
Sahal’s versatile nature is the biggest plus for his teams. He is one of the few players who can contribute from every single position in the field, except the deep defense.
Centre-Forward: Jason Cummings
Jason Cummings has been the most hyped signing from last season. His goal-poaching nature will earn him a start in Fran Molina’s team. However, he has been highly inconsistent. He needs to put in more effort to excel further.
If Cummings doesn’t meet expectations, Dimitri Petratos will replace him soon. Petratos is also expected to be his substitute as the game progresses.
Centre-Forward: Jamie Maclaren
Jamie Maclaren has been the most sensational signing of ISL 2024-25. The Mariners spent high on the A-League legend to strengthen their attack. He, with Jason Cummings, Dimitri Petratos, and Greg Stewart, is undoubtedly the most fierce attack-line in the ISL.
Maclaren is coming from the A-League, where he hails to be the highest goal scorer of all time. Maclaren joined Mohun Bagan on a free from Melbourne City. He was injured since his arrival, however, he is fit now and we can expect him to start from the campaign opener itself.
