ISL: Mumbai City FC set to sign Daniel Lalhlimpuia
The 26-year-old striker already has 135 first-team appearances in Indian football
Mumbai City FC, the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 winners, are set to strengthen their attacking lineup by acquiring the services of Indian international Daniel Lalhlimpuia.
Petr Kratky, who replaced Des Buckingham mid-season, quickly settled into his role and led the team to the ISL title. However, many believe his more significant achievement was utilizing and giving exposure to Indian players in attacking positions.
“Daniel Lalhlimpuia is set to sign for Mumbai City and both parties are likely to complete the paperwork in the upcoming days. He will provide great squad depth for Petr Kratky,” a source tracking the transfer told Khel Now.
Promising Talent
Daniel Lalhlimpuia has always been a highly-rated striker since his days with Indian youth international teams, having captained India at multiple age-group levels. He played for India U-16, U-19 and U-23 teams before making three senior team appearances under Stephen Constantine in 2018. Those who followed Indian youth football have long believed in Daniel’s talent, although he is yet to fully realize it at the professional level.
Despite this, Daniel has had a successful career, winning two I-Leagues, the Super Cup and the Federation Cup. He has played for Delhi Dynamos, Bengaluru FC, Chennaiyin FC and most recently Punjab FC. Over his career, he has made 135 first-team appearances in Indian football, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists.
New Opportunity
Daniel Lalhlimpuia has a great chance to rebuild his career under Petr Kratky. Last season, he demonstrated that he could get the best out of Indian players. Kratky will hope that Daniel can offer options in the striker position, use his experience in crucial situations and fulfill the potential he showed in his youth.
Mumbai City’s preparations for ISL 2024-25
Mumbai City will start their pre-season in July. The club have already made several moves in the transfer market, bringing in Brandon Fernandes, TP Rehenesh and Noufal PN. Meanwhile, several players have left the club, including Rahul Bheke, Jorge Pereyra Diaz, Vinit Rai, Alberto Noguera, Mohammad Nawaz, Yakub Vojtus, Gurkirat Singh, Bhaskar Roy, Rowlin Borges, Tondonba Singh and Naocha Singh.
With these changes and the addition of Daniel Lalhlimpuia, Mumbai City will aim to build on their success and defend their title in the upcoming ISL season.
